Hi I am new to the Dalesfan pages & the bloodlines fascinate me as I had no history on my previous Dales x mare but I know that PollyAnne's Dad was a Leadgate (Black Phantom) & I have since found out on facebook that Thornville Dan is Black Phantoms half brother. If anyone has any information on the Leadgates I would be grateful. Thanks Pat

Hi Pat. There are over twenty Leadgate ponies bred by Mr Welford in County Durham throughout the eighties and nineties and two part breds dating back to 1966. The prefix is now held by his daughter. Phantom was the first pony she bred in her name. In 2007, her colt foal Leadgate Blue Levi won the DPS Foal Show. Leadgate Phantom is sired by Waterside William II owned by Norma Thomson who posts on this forum as "Manorian". William has sired 24 purebred Dales, so there will be quite a lot of half brothers and sisters for Phantom I have one - Manorian Moonstone. Phantom himself has sired 11 purebred Dales as well as your part-bred Polly Anne.

I have bred two ponies related to Phantom.
Highclose Maytime Melody now owned by Gill Woods near Settle and our own stallion Highclose Maverick are both by Waterside William II. They will be half sister and brother to Phantom.

Thank you so much for the info. Leadgate Black Phantom was owned by Rose Willison who is based at Levens nr lancaster I do keep in touch with her. Phantom sired alot of foals with her & her Dales mares ( Castlehill Daisy, Tarbarl Black Diana & Tarbarl Stargirl) (they are registered as Cotes) until 1 foal died & he was rested for FIS & was found to carry the gene so she made the desicion to have him gelded she now has another colt to make a stallion for her mares Lowhouses Comet. I have also recently met karen at darwen who owns Tarbarl Matthew I believe she used to have William. Thanks again girls

Hi Pat. I have posted the following photos of William from a couple of weeks ago. It was a shame that Phantom was gelded because he is a stunning pony. It was a shock to us as well because William had tested clear for FIS. I am sure phantom will do well ridden though. it would be nice to see some pics of your pony too. This was a couple of weeks ago at Edenwell where he won his first veteran class (and the M&M class) and ridden at Richmond I know he has wintered well (cough, cough) but he will loose a bit when his mares arrive and he is ridden more.

Well I think he looks amazing Norma! Here is one of his little boy, Maverick! Not as clean as daddy, after a good roll in our school on Saturday!
