I know you are all old hands/hats at the showing, but Charlie Boy and I have never done it before. What should one be seen in at the performance show? I've just checked out the events bit and it's the first time I have thought about it. I don't have a tweed jacket - do I need to be finding one? I thought maybe that we would just have a go at anything that we were allowed to as unreg beginners but i haven't a clue about attire for me or CB

Riders of M&Ms traditionally wear tweed but to be honest if you have black or navy I don't think it will matter at the Performance Show, unless maybe you are doing tack and turnout - and even then I am not too sure it would matter too much!
You can always check with Val James, she is VJEbony on this board.

Eeeeeek!! I was just going to post a reply - then remembered that I'M the tack and turnout judge!
I'll be glad when the show is here and gone - it's quite a strain not talking about things! LOL

Thanks Olivia - that's kind but I'm a tiddler - 8 or 10 for room for a struggle! I don't think tack & turnout is for us - I'm a right messy little thing but I want to look smart as I don't want Charlie Boy to be embarrassed by his owner at his first chance to show off. LOL

he he Ang - I have never entered Tack and Turnout - LOL it takes me enough to give the tack a quick wipe over before a show never mind polishing the stirrup bars...........

I've entered the tack and turnout at the Performance show but only because I promised myself I would enter EVERYTHING regardless apart from the driving which D can't do. Regretting it now as it will just be an embarrassment really. I just don't have proper showing tack and stuff. Do you get a point just for entering by any chance? LOL!

yes you always look smart. Don`t know but wouldn`t have thought it would go on showing tack hopefully more the tack should fit, be clean and in good repair. For the rider neat workmanlike apperearance. But only guessing

In some tack and turnout classes I've seen (never entered one lol!) the judge actually checked the shininess of the buttons on the stirrup flaps, and the underside of the competitors riding boots Some people take this class VERY seriously!! Not sure what would happen if it was pouring with rain and the field wet and muddy ;D

This is what I was told for M&M classes bearing in mind that I was starting from scratch: Riding hat with black cover, hair in a net or tied back with a black shrunchie (its long), Tweed jacket White shirt with tie to co-ordinate with jacket ie not cartoon characters Beige or cream jods Brown jodpur boots NB Always a good idea to cover cream jods with thin overtrousers if its not too hot - unless you're not a muck magnet like me! I swap the riding hat for a flat cap for the in-hand classes (if I can get it to stay on) but lots of people use those leather slouch hats or no hat. Waistcoats instead of jackets are also common and look smart. I was also told brown leather saddle & bridle, but mine's synthetic and black so I got a black bridle to match. I think the main thing is to make sure that it fits your pony properly and avoid using anything that you're not both used to. PS I'm no expert just repeating what I was told by an M&M judge. As a complete irrelevancy my instructor got a supreme champion with her coloured 16hh yearling colt and has to show him at the next show they've qualified for dressed in evening wear! - she's 5" nothing and well endowed. This caused great hilarity after my lesson.

Your hat should really be navy if you are a lady and not a skull cap, a velvet one. Hair in a net but then in a bun if possible, whatever you do with it just make sure its neat and tidy and out of the way, hair down your back is not ideal especially in the wind.
Basically what I wear inhand is
Cream trousers Brown tweed jacket Cream shirt (less stark than white) Red tie Tiepin (courtesy of my sister for my birthday!) I should wear brown gloves (but i hate so i refuse) Brown cane
Riddens are
Navy Velvet hat with flesh strap, Beige/Corn/Canary/Cream jods Long Boots for lge breeds (black), or Brown short boots for small breeds (with joddy clips) Cream shirt Red tie Brown tweed (thats mine btw yours can be whatever colour you desire!) Hair in a bun Brown gloves brown cane.
(or do black cane/black gloves which ever you prefer)
That is being really picky and the most ideal world and is probably what is expected at County level although some variations. I actually don't own a velvet hat, mine is black and I'm quite happy with showing in that. Some traditionalists would die of shock but thats their problem LOL
I would just try to turn yourself out as neat as possible for tack and turnout at the performance show, it does normally come down to cleaning under your boots (so get someone to wipe your boots once you are mounted), make sure your tack (and horse) is pristine, make sure all your hair is out of the way and wispy strands are under control and most importantly sit up and smile, it can do wonders to your 'image! whatever you are wearing, just make sure you are comfortable in it.
Personally I hate T&T and have always been pants at it, never pretty pony enough for it LOL
