I measured Jazz tonight.....He is 14hh How the heck did that happen, I knew he was getting bigger, but at not quite 2 he is 14hh what am i going to do, he hasnt been standing in miracle grow....I dont think anyway Anyway, questions.... Who has youngsters at the moment? What age and height are they? Jazz is Dales, his dad is an overheight dales at around 15.2 his mum was just usual dales 14.2 I know the 1st yr they grow the most but now he has been gelded he may shoot up some more or he may just stay at what he is, though they are slow maturers so will maybe grow millimeters at 5 I have bought a giant dales I think ;D

Hi Steve - It'd be great to see some pics of Reuben and Crystal. If you look in the "Very Useful Posts" board you'll see instructions for loading pics into photobucket and then putting them into posts on the board.....it's easy when you know how! It must be....I can do it LOL

Both Cherry and Olivia were huge youngsters, Olivia was 14.2hh at two years old, Cherry was similar if not the same and both are now a good 14.3hh and possibly even more (Olivia is rising 5 and Cherry 4). However they both seemed to do a lot of growing in height up to the age of two then slowed down and filled out. Both parents of Olivia and Cherry weren't overheight, so I don't know where it came from - maybe my grass! Gem on the other hand is not of the same ilk! She was approx 11.3hh when I got her at 5 months, now she's 8 months and hasn't grown hugely (yet!). Cherry was much taller at that age.

We have one pony who was around 14hh at 20 months when we bought her and now she is rising four she is almost 14.2hh. It is possible she will make 14.3, but on the other hand I haven't seen her grow in a while, just fill out a lot. I reckon these Dales are very different to each other, none the same, but I have noticed how some lines mature and grow more slowly than others.
One of our youngsters we have had since she was 7 months and she was tiny, but almost 3 now, she is just over 14hh and I think will make a good 14.1. However she has looked chunky all her life, whereas the 4 year old has looked very slight but tall and is now putting on width and depth.

Tommy is four this year and about 13.2, but he is bum high, I really don,t think he will be as big as Merls who is 14.3, but he is a lovely chunky chap and I love him.

Mags, is a Highland, she is 11 months old at the moment and 12.2hh at the withers and i didn't measure her bum, but it must be nearly 13.1 -13.2hh, LOL. I find it really interesting the way they all grow at different spurts and then hear what height they end up being.
Mags is very slim acorss the chest at the moment, which i know will not last for long (all relatives have a good set of shoulders on them), but she is getting a nice round Highland bum, LOL.

Well Duke was 14hh when I got him at 2 and at coming up for 5 he is 15.2hh!!! He is very fit though which does make them taller than when they are unfit but Ben on the other hand is not even 13.3hh at rising 2 so time will tell. I do love my giant Dales pony though
