Was just wondering whether you could help with a price guide for these two:

17hh 11 year old ISH Gelding, mw build. He is nicely schooled on the flat, very easy to ride and has a great jump. He also hacks alone and in company, is excellent in traffic and is a very sweet easy to do horse - a real pleasure to own. £**** inc all tack and rugs (open to offers)

He hacks out in open spaces and heavy traffic on his own and in company, he doesn't hot up in open spaces nor when jumping. He is forward going but safe and comfy to ride.

14.2hh bay roan New Forest x mare, riding 5 years old. Very sane and sensible, hacks out in company nicely (hasn`t been tried alone due to her age but can`t see any problems) - leads, goes in the middle or at the back of the ride. Excellent in traffic. Excellent to ride in open spaces - can be cantered across the field and then walked along the same stretch on a loose rein without pulling/hotting up etc. Has just started jumping natural jumps out hacking and coloured poles in the school - is proving to be very willing. Also schools nicely on the flat. Very easy to do in all ways. Ideal for most riders including adults and children. £**** inc all tack and rugs (offers accepted)

Hacked her out at the weekend and she was an absolute angel. We went past big lorries, push chairs, people with umbrellas, across muddy tracks, alongside the canal, through a ford, up the main road near Solihull (which isn't the nicest of roads!), had double decker buses pass us and went across a ditch. She will also canter in open spaces and then walk around on a buckle end, she doesn't pull when cantering either and is easy to stop


I won't put how much they are advertised for at the moment. Also, this is from their adverts - do you think they sound ok or could you give me some re-wording help to?

Man, if I was younger and had the money, I'd be biting your hand off for the New Forest girl!!!

About the only thing I can think to ad would be how are they both in the stables? You mention their riding abilities, but are they well mannered for the farrier, up to date on their jabs and teeth, etc?? It might be helpful to just mention how they do, as an indicator that both are in good health and have no stable vices.

Oh, I forgot to add, just now you're at the cusp of winter ending...so really this is still wintertime. People are never ever keen on purchasing horses or ponies at this time of year because for the most part, they've purchased hay for the ponies that they currently have, and not extra. Hay is very difficult to find this time of year, and many won't buy a new horse until the grass starts coming through ~ and the promise of riding is right on their doorstep.

I'd say just hang in there. They'll probably have prospective buyers next month, or May.

In that case then they are excellent in the stable - you can groom/handle them and muck out with them in there without tying them up, they are upto date with vacs, excellent for the farrier (you don't even have to hold them!!), both good do-ers to

They both sound lovely and should hold their value - so would suggest not reducing the price drastically until later in the Spring (or unless it's absolutely vital to sell them now). As Debbie says, the market will pick up when the better weather comes.

Winnings bump up the price - but potential holds it.

Horses and ponies which are truly schoolmasters/mistresses, easy to do, safe and kind are worth their weight in gold I reckon. I know of a 14hh cob type, 12 y-o which will sell for £5000 - he's a cracker, been-there-done-it type who has taught his young owner and is now ready to help another youngster to fly!

I don't know much about selling horses but i have spent a lot of time buying them!! I know when I was looking the most important thing was to see a picture. If there was no picture on the ad I really wouldn't bother to look further as they say a picture tells a thousand words. Also with the 11 year old, if he has a good health record you may want to mention it as that can be something people are concerned about with a horse over 10. Also it may be worth looking on some of the websites and try to find other horses that sound similar and see what people are asking. I agree that good ponies and horses are worth their weight in gold and I am sure they will sell to good homes. The market definately picks up in the mid to late Spring but there are also people looking now too. They both sound like darlings, good luck!

Thanks, there are some pictures on the adverts although we are in the process of getting some better ones (just waiting for the weather to pick up a bit). Neither of them have ever been sick

14.2 new forest x, bay mare. Not mareish in the slighest. Fern is 5years old but has the head of a 10year old. Hack out in company but not tried alone due to lack of time. 110% in all traffic goes first or last.

TBH I think the problem is even though you say shes safe she hasnt hacked out alone and age should really be a problem, all ours were hacking by themselfs at 4, even if it was 10mins round the block. I would hack her out a few times and write has hacked out alone but due to time commitments I cannot do her the justice she needs, hence sale.

I also put no Timewasters/dealers/loan and open to vet.

TBH I think what maybe reflecting is the wording at the pictuyres.

Get a big clear picture of her from side on, standing up with her head up.
A clear schooling picture and a different jumping picture (not sure why the jumping one puts me off). Good luck.
