I can't remember when i last had a lesson, but some time last Autumn. We have our first dressage comp in less than three weeks, with me being very lazy and Sparky has got a very hunting head on him, i thought i better book some lessons. So today was the day, to start with he had a major tantrum and "no i am not going to do anything you ask me". I though oh brill, but after about 10 minutes he really relaxed and worked on the bridle nearly the whole lesson, well except for when i was concentrating on other things and forgot, LOL. I came out of the lesson, thinking i must have been riding a different pony as he just felt fab and worked so hard, i ended up in just a t.shirt and he had a good sweat on. I have to admit i feel like this inside but i am slowly seizing up sitting in the office on the outside, LOL

I'm so glad he did a proper turnaround and came back to work for you. What a good boy It can't all be hoolieing like mad If you get the chance, do some mild stretching when you can, and I swear by arnica rub! Tablets if you can't get ahold of the rub, and it might not hurt to put three into his evening and morning tea. You might not be the only one feeling the workout ;D

Wonderful lesson by the sound of it. I wonder if this was a bit of Podhajsky's principles working? In his books he talks about how he used to take horses out hacking and hunting to get them forward thinking. His principle was, unless you had good forward motion you couldn't collect properly at all.
Hope you're not too stiff today!

Brilliant! It's a lovely feeling to have a lesson like that, isn't it? I think Linda is right; I've always found hunting or a good blast out hacking brings out the "forward" you need for dressage and also keeps the horses from going stale.

I think that is a very good theory
I have to admit the aches the day after (yesterday) wasn't as bad as the evening of my lesson.
