It was pouring with rain this evening at feeding time. Its hard work getting through the gate with 4 buckets and a bale of hay - and thats after walking miles up the track to get there - especially with the mud, and 4 black hairies waiting for us.

Rick had the bright idea of driving round in the Disco, going up the farm track, so that we were going through the gate BEHIND the ponies ....who would be waiting at the other gate, or so we thought.

We drove up the lane, and could see the ponies all waiting by their usual gate. Great! Drove up the track, and I got out to open the gate (we were still a few acres away!) backed into gateway, unloaded food and hay and set off up the field. Stilll thinking we would be able to put the buckets out, sort out hay etc. ....then shout ponies.

Hmm.....radar ears either heard the Disco on the track, or heard the gate open, cos next thing, 4 black hairy faces appeared over the hill, led by Folly, with Tilly bringing up the rear.

They are not stupid are they!!!

I know the feeling Mair. I used to have a hell of a struggle getting the hay out to my lot with the quad bike and trailer. I've decided it is a lot easier to call them into the stables for a token tea while I put the hay out in peace!

it's the dales excellent hearing, those ears can hear a car engine/bucket rattle/crisp packet at 500 yards!!

when I used to drive down to tinkers field, if you wound the window down as you approached the field you could hear her whinny VERY loudly.. ;D
