we took these pics of her this weekend. I have left her rug off so she cna get on with moulting - she has her shed and the trees for shelter and the rug is pretty thigk. Her thin one doesn't really fit her any more. Her body has changed shape - I think it is because her back has gone more dipped, she looks much deeper in her body somehow. There's a lot of hair, and you cna feel her ribs fairly easily though they are not prominent. She has no muscle on her chest or shoulders, and not much on her rump. She has a funny thick neck, and the pot belly never goes away. She isn't wormy but I wonder if she was in the past before she came to us. Or maybe her age makes her a bit pot bellied? She is very low on her fetlocks and that makes her front feet very flat they look long, but when you look at the soles, they aren't that long at all. What do you think? I think she looks pretty old but basically not too bad. I value your honest opinions. Body shot.... Sweet face.... Monty the mule looking cute (and a bit dim!).... Mike and Monty.....

Well, I think Jenny looks better than Vicky my oldie, who is a mere 30 and three quarters. Vickys ribs are stuck ouot, and she loses weight terribly in winter off her back end. Her neck goes very thin ......she has plenty of senior conditioning mix, alfa beet and hi fi, but will no longer eat hay. Hopefully, she will pick up weight as she usually does in the summer.
I honestly think for her age Jenny looks very good.

I think she looks in fab condition for her age- she certainly looks bright and interested which is always a good sign All the oldies Ive known have had a pot belly which I think is possibly down to age rather than anything more sinister. I certainly wouldnt have guessed she was 41!

I think that you can def tell that she is no spring chicken anymore, but I think that she looks really well for her age, there is an old pony in the field with Lea and he is 32 & I thought he was doing well, but she looks no worse than him, if not better even with all those extra years.
I agree with Mickey about the pot bellied thing, think it just goes with age.

Wow, I would say she is looking great for 41. We have a few oldies at our yard and they are much older looking and they are no where near 41. Monty looks a cool dude.

She looks terrific - I had a pony who lived to 42 and he was very similar in shape, think it's an age thing!

I think Jenny looks great for her age - Dan's back has dipped and his belly dropped with age and he's only 21! Think in Dan's case his belly has been so huge it's the weight which has dragged it down! ;D Monty is cute

Good gravy, that's 'potbellied'? She hardly looks it! I was expecting a much bigger dip in her back than I saw. And I totally agree with the others, you can tell she's no spring chicken, but she's holding her condition extremely well. I love her eyes.
LOL, and Monty looks quite the character! Is he fairly laid back?

Funnily enough I was going to do the same yesterday and post a pic of Winnie - will do it today. I think Jenny is looking amazing for her age and looks younger than my Winnie who is "only" 34!
Winnie is far more dipped back but I've been told he had a dippy back even as a youngster. He has also lost much of his muscle but I think he's come through this winter better than ever. I've been feeding him on A&P Calm and Condition with lots of Speedybeet and it seems to have helped him.

I don't think you should have any concerns with Jenny. She looks fantastic for her age, far better than many horses a lot younger! I have read somewhere that pot-bellies in oldies is due to age-related fluid-retention and is nothing to worry about. Jenny is a credit to you - long may she continue in good health!
Love your mule - how old is he and how is he bred? We once (probably foolishly) toyed with the idea of mating our 18.2HH Percheron mare with a donkey jack to produce a Draft Mule, but never took the plunge. Is Monty easy to manage. He looks like great fun!
