Well I've had a lovely day with Jacqui at a Western Open Day in Cambridgeshire. It was great fun with lots of lovely horses. Of course had to take LOTS of pics - so here we go! (Some of them are a bit dark because of taking pics against bright outdoor light, but you'll get the gist)
David Deptford gave a great demonstration of reining on a 7 yr old stallion. It was amazing how soft he was and very responsive to the tiniest of aids.
In a spin:
A slide:
And from the side where you can see how they use themselves
And you can see how fast they go in preparation to slide:
They also brought in some percheons to show there stuff off by harrowing the surface - I thought they were lovely, but I've got a soft spot for big and hairy!!!!
They also did a swap where David rode a high level dressage horse and the dressage rider rode a reining horse - that was great fun, with lots of giggles and grins all round. It just goes to show the calm nature of quarter horses - the reining horse was an 8yr old stallion, calm as you like. The dressage horse was a 14yr old gelding, and we couldn't even clap without him spooking! Didn't get any pics as I was too busying going "ooohhh and ahhhhh"
They finished off by demoing a couple of QH they had for sale. This chap was VERY handsome, and just like the horse I imagined I owned most of my childhood!!! He's also insanely well bred and I can't imagine the number of noughts he will have in his price tag!!
But this little chappy stole my heart - such a sweety pie, we had quite a nice chat in his stable and he just loved his cuddles and scritches!
It was a great day!
