I have a two year old colt who I am considering taking to the spring show. On the schedule it has junior premiums at 9.30am but also a 2 year old colt class. Why is there 2 classes? can someone explain to me what the junior premiums are (I understand the stallion premiums). Also if I take my 2 yr old colt should he be shown in stallion tack, inhand bridle or is he too young for this and wear a simple rope halter??

Hi.
The.colt.premiums.are.judged.by.a.panel.of.normally.DPS.Council.members,.it.has.no.bearing.on.the.class.result..
If.your.pony,.on.inspection.is.deemed.to.get.a.premium.award..you.get.a.gorgeous.rosette.and.a.certain.amount.of.money..I.believe.the.idea.is.they.award.the.premium.to.encourage.you.to.retain.your.colt.to.put.forward.for.licensing..Its.like.a.stamp.of.approval.i.guess.and.imo.a.great.acheivement.for.a.young.colt.
Your.class.is.part.of.the.show.and.is.judged.by.the.nominated.judge..I.guess.in.theory.I.could.come.last.in.my.class.but.still.be.awarded.a.premium.as.they.are.two.separate.entities.(and.separate.opinions).
I've.a.2.year.old.colt.entered.too.and.will.be.showing.him.in.a.inhand.bridle.only.It.isn't.required.he.is.shown.in.full.stallion.harness.until.he.is.3.and.the.harness.would.swamp.him.at.this.age.I.wouldn't.be.able.to.hold.him.in.a.rope.halter.especially.as.hormones.have.arrived!!
Good.luck

Thanks for your help much appreciated. Do you live local to the show or do you have to travel far?

I.haven't.entirely.decided.whether.Wills.will.go.(2.year.old),he.is.entered.but.I've.a.yearling.to.present .for.mum.anyway.for.premium.inspections.so.will.be.there. You.don't.have.to.pay.to.enter.the.premiums.btw;.its.just.the.£2.for.the.colt.class.not.£2.per.thing Sue,.i.have..a.new.keyboard.on.order;.its.just.currently.lost.in.the.post

I live at Crook (around 10 miles from you) but my parents live at West Auckland so I know exactly where you are talking about. I think there are a few breeders around Bolam, and 2 in West Auckland (us being 1!)
