Might also be worth looking to see if there could be a lice problem too. I think some people have thought it was sweet itch, only to find their pony had lice.

I have tried lotionafter potion after embrocation to help Harley stop being so itchy, but the only thing I find helps is the fly sheet and neck cover. I hate it with a passion, but so far we still have mane and no raw patches so it does work. It also keeps him cool!
There is some stuff you can get from a pharmacy but I can't think of the name - some people swear by that but I've never tried it. I'm sure someone on here will know the name!!

Tried lotions and potions including benzyl benzoate. All that has helped is a boett, although I now have the cheaper pagony copy Mickey has had it for 9 years or so- didnt get it under control until we moved and new YM told me to try rugging him which helped so invested in a boett. His hindquarters were raw, bleeding and he looked a cruelty case at his worst.

None of my have actual sweetitch thank goodness, but a couple of years ago, Molly started at this time of year to scratch and scratch - no sign of lice, but her coat went all dandruffy, and the more she itched the worse she got. I put her on itch free from Global Herbs and it stopped her quickly.
All mine are scratching themselves on the tree branches and causing their coats to go dusty. Probably due to the midges, which are quite bad in the evening.
