Over the last 2 weeks Sian has what i can only describe as a "lump" appear to the girth area; i initially thought it was a bite and have been treating it as such BUT over the last couple of days ITS GROWN Its now about the size of half of my palm, a flatISH raised squishy area which when you put the saddl/girth on, it gets pushed infront of the girth and looks like a round ball type lump (i HAVN'T been riding, just do it to see what this strange thing looks like). Girth Galls - never had one, never seen one - could i be optamistic and think its one of these OR should i be worried On Thursday's the vets offer a FREE visit system, i think i will get them out

Thats what i thought initially but thought with treatment it would have gone down by now NOT got bigger. Tomorrows free visits are all gone SO its either call them out on an emergency visit OR treat it as a Girth Gall until Monday and book a free visit for next Thursday (& lunge her in the meantime with just the rope halter). Just when things are coming together, you get knocked back again

The girth galls that Dan had were quite hard, like a callous (I suppose that's what they are?). I was told to put surgical spirit on the area to toughen it up, but I always had to be careful what kind of girths I used. Both Dan and Dancer got galls with neoprene and Dan also with leather! Not sure that this sounds like a girth gall although it's a coincidence it's in the same area? Perhaps Sian is particularly sensitive Hopefully it's nothing serious and you will get to the bottom of it soon - lucky you having free vet visits! Never heard of that one before ... ours have a license to print money

Sounds like some sort of fluid swelling or haematoma as Row says. Possibley due to a flie bite? Will be interested to hear what the vet says. Girths can cause this but if you haven't been riding then it can't be girth related.

I lunged Sian last night without the roller and hosed the said lump for about 20mins, this morining its ALOT smaller Having shown & spoke to a few at the main yard last night and from scouring the net yesterday, im begining to believe it IS Girth Gall. I had a dressage saddle for Christmas and use a Wintec Chaffless girth which is far FAR wider than my "normal" girth that is used with my WH saddle SO with upping Sian's workload the last few weeks, the heat newish tack - my assumption is now that its THE GIRTH along with possibly a bite Im going to continue cold hosing it twice a day until Monday, IF it goes away from not having the girth on - fine, IF it is still there im calling the vet out. IF it goes away from not having the girth on, once gone im going to go back to using the WH tack and see if it happens; if it doesn't then IMO it only points towards the Wintec girth - alternative dressage girth search will then commence
