Today Galahad got his teeth floated. Poor boy, I didn't realize, but somewhere along our separate paths, he's developed a real fear of vets. He panicked when the new vet came up...eyes rolled and the whole nine yards. Luckily the vet took one look, did away with the twitch and went ahead and sedated Galahad. Galahad in turn mellowed practically instantly, heaved a huge sigh, drooped the lower lip and thought it was all good. So whilst the vet was rasping his teeth and the assistant was holding his head and tongue, I noted...Galahad's got two very large ulcers on the tip of his tongue. When I mentioned them, neither the vet nor the assistant seemed fussed. How did it get there? the assistant shrugged.... maybe he'd eaten a weed or something that split his tongue. Now I've had mouth ulcers, and I've accidentally bitten my tongue, and it jolly well hurts! They didn't seem fussed, thought it would shift on its on. But I want to know, does anyone know anything I can do for my boy to help these heal?? I know anything wrong in the mouth tends to heal within a couple of days, but ...yeaouch!! For the record, he adores being sedated, and thinks this is massively luverly!! ;D And he was chewing and eating much better throughout the day and at supper, so the floating of the teeth was beneficial. I just want to get this extra ulcer thingy gone if I can help it at all.

If his teeth had sharp edges Debbie, he has probably caught his toungue with them when eating, now they have been rasped, he should not catch his toungue anymore, and they should heal in no time. So I shouldn't worry to much, he'll probably get more upset by you putting something on them, obviously a different story it they don't heal, but I bet now his teeth have been sorted they'll be gone in a couple of days.

Thanks for that He seems to be chewing much better. LOL, although he's now doing funny sideways movements with his jaw from time to time. Maybe its because it feels different with the points being gone? Or maybe his ulcers are getting snagged sometimes. He tends to swish and yawn after he gets a drink of water. But he is certainly eating better.

Debbie, when Tommy (Raygill William) first came to us, he was very underweight and had severe runs, which didn't help! He had 2 vets and a dentist to him within 48 hours of arriving and I was shocked to find that his tongue had a number of ulcers, big, angry and very sore-looking. I wondered whether it was his teeth causing the problem, but the vet reckoned it was a sign of him being run down. Thinking about it, I get tongue ulcers when I'm tired and stressed (got a massive one at the moment, really sore!), so it made sense. Anyway, I'm pleased to say that after a shed-load of meds and boosters and some good food, they had completely disappeared after a few weeks. Is it possible that Galahad has got himself stressed in any way? You never know, he may even be missing Blossom Tommy is also one for the sedatives, really spaced out man!

Poor boy ulcers are not nice, I tend to get them if I've over indulged on sweet things

James had them before the dentist rasped the sharp bits off his teeth and I've never seen them since - although it must be said I don't go sticking anything I value in his mouth fingers, head etc If I don't eat properly or get overtired I get them so it could be that he's not as chilled out without Blossom to keep in order

He's certainly not missing Blossom. If anything, quite the opposite. I didn't realize just how much Blossom had been nagging him and running him off the hay. The first week she was gone he did nothing but eat...practically inhaling everything I threw at him. And boy did he regain weight! So I'm in the process of fencing in a new paddock for him. They can share a fenceline and chat over that, but I think they'll both be far, far happier having their own space. I'll have to grab ahold of his tongue and see if the ulcers are improving or getting worse. He ought to love this!

One tongue grab later, and his tongue seems to be mostly healed. There's just a small slit left.
