I had one in black which I recently sold to my YO.. It was absolutley gorgeous and fit my original saddle for Connie. Unfortunately my new saddle then didn't sit right on it as it had rolled fleece edges. Broke my heart to sell it but at tlest now it is used and not just sat gathering dust and moths somewhere.

I use the half wool, hi-wither one for Bea and I think they're great. I've had two for around three years now - one to wear and one to wash so they get plenty of use.

The half wool gives the padding and protection where it's needed under the seat of the saddle with less bulk under the leg. Also they're less expensive than the full wool if you're on a budget, but still want that type of numnah.
The half wool is great, easy to wash - I brush any hair out first though. Velcro straps mean it's easy to fasten to the saddle. They wear well and don't shed.

To be honest, Row, although I think the full wool ones look lovely - for day-to-day use I think the half wool are fine. They do the job they're designed for. Bea has some old warble scabs on his saddle area (from before I got him) so I like the sheepskin against his back to provide extra protection and padding - more than a normal numnah gives. I like the way the wool absorbs the sweat without rubbing.

I use a full sheepskin one with Harley for endurance and it is wonderful. I've also in the past used the half pad (no flaps at all) but with a synthetic saddle if they get hot under the saddle flaps and there is no saddle pad there it can chafe so i don't use it for longer distances now.
They both wash really well. I was lucky enough to get mine second hand but in excellent condition from someone on here, but am considering asking Santa for another one LOL!

My half wool numnahs have ordinary, thinly padded flaps on them to go under the saddle flaps.

I've seen those too Sue, but this one is only the top of the saddle - sort of the seat and stirrup flaps if you know what I mean.
I may invest in one like yours though.

It's nice, but if Bea was working very hard and sweating a lot (like XC or endurance) I'd probably want something that would absorb more under the saddle flaps. We just need the right product for the job I guess.....

I've got a 60kmer on sunday so will see how it gets on with the first 35km and if he's too hot might change to a polypad for the last 25km. Mind you they cover a fair bit of body don't they?

Dan is a real sweaty betty so maybe not the best choice for him? , i use a polly pad for him now and he sets white sweat under that
