Does anyone have a gig with these? I know you can buy them with detachable shafts.
I have a home made (not by us) exercise cart and we are thinking of modifying it to make it easier to store by making the shafts detachable. The shafts are hollow metal.
My thought is to cut them close to the cart - there is a semicircular cross-member from one shaft to the other, with the outside edge of the curve welded to the frame of the gig. We'd leave a good 6 inches or so attached. Then I thought we could weld a sleeve over the cut end so it would fit over the attached end and use flat headed bolts or circlips to attach the shafts via holes drilled through the shafts. We would of course make sure they couldn't slip round
If anyone has a gig with detachable shafts could you post a pic of the atttachment bit please?
Does my theory sound reasonable? Safety of course is uppermost in my mind so if my idea is totally loopy please tell me LOL!

Sounds very similar to how mine is but the other way round, the shafts are detachable. Will look for a pic later but the shafts basically "slot" into circular sleeves that are welded onto the cart and then secured using butterfly (? not sure thats the right name) bolts.

My shafts are round tube, they fit into square tube fittings on the cart and are secured by a couple of bolts

Used to have one like Kaz's. We used strong tractor circlips (sp?) rather than bolts as they were quicker to detach. Sorry, no photos.

Oh cripes, I thought I'd put it on - gig is now shaftless!! It worked after only 2 days in Mike's shed!!
He lopped them off close to the most solid part of the frame, welded narrower bits on to the shafts that fit inside the bits left attached to the gig, and they slot back in and are fixed with 2 coach bolts to keep them solid and secure. It works really well and takes up heaps less room.
AND he made a stand for the gig as well!! ;D
