Tilly has generally only ever been ridden in her kk ultra which was fine for most things. She had a mullen mouth rugby pelham for showing and SJing so was only ever occasionally worn.
However I want to ride in a pelham for hacking out on my own - with it in I'm more confident, so Tilly is better and it's just better all round.
But I don't think she's particularly happy in the mullen mouthpiece. She's started to flap her lips when she gets excited and she's got the pelham in - which I believe is a sign that she is uncomfortable with the tongue pressure.
I had decided to go with the triple barrel myler mouthpiece but that doesn't come in a pelham and it doesn't come in a 6" mouthpiece...
SO back to the drawing board, the bit needs to be: As thin as possible pelham shanks no port room for a BIG tongue and VERY low palette
Does anything leap to mind?

How tight is the curb Olivia? Could you slacken it by a link or two and still have it come into play when you need it?
I've got Bea in a happy mouth pelham and he's very happy in it. He hated the metal mullen mouth - set his jaw and neck and showed his GREAT displeasure with much tail swishing and head shaking LOL

Could you not try a pelham with the same mouthpiece that she's happy in? I know that the curb effect isn't as great with a double jointed but but you'd still have some control.

If youring Neule Scule and discuss the issue they will talk you through the range of possibilities. The other helpful place is the saddle shop on line. I've dealt with the owner and she is very helpful with bits.
