No pics today as no Sue, only one little helper and it was raining too hard to to things outside, so sorry!
Doing morning ponies this morning as I was putting out feed whilst everyone was wandering in, Maureen said "Why is Tim's eye red??". Alarm bells!!!!
He had a gash on his upper eyelid which was new and bleeding. Don't know what he'd done. It was in too difficult a place to do anything to without more expert help so decided to wait for Claire so we could assess it better and see if it needed stitching. Poor little man. I must admit to being a bit worried.
It had stopped bleeding of its own accord by the time Claire came for our lesson so didn't need stitching but was rather nasty looking. I put some sudocrem on it and will keep an eye on it. Celt was impressed! "Ooh! Will he have a scar??!" I told her probably, and Isaac looked unimpressed!
Anyway, cos of the weather we couldn't get out and as I'd bought some horse trimmers on Ebay (only £20 for Wahl ones brand new) as I wanted to take Isaac's face off as he is still scratching for England despite two doses of Coopers, we thought we'd teach clipping! Amy and baby were in the ajoining stable so he could watch and learn. It is also a cheap way for me to acclimatise the youngsters (and the oldies!) to clippers incase they need clipping in the future.
I had done an intro to clippers to all three the night before, as in can you touch the clippers, treat, clippers on (running), clippers off, can you touch them running, treat, etc. All was going well (baby was best! ) until I was doing the touch running bit and knocked a broom over, what a noise it made and all three ponies flew to the other side of the stables! Of course, it was the clippers as they didn't see the broom! Drat! It's amazing what a few treats will do to get them to come back again!
We got Isaac's cheeks done on a slowly, slowly basis, he was initially scared then just trying it on. I think I'd need a week if we were going for a full clip! He was fine with Claire's big clippers running against his shoulders and neck though. Maybe his head wasn't the most sensible place to start but I'm not doing anything else yet this year!
By then we'd run out of time so didn't touch Amy or baby with the running clippers, but I'll try that another time. My plan is to have Tim and or Celt next door whenever we do anything new so they see and think about it (as long as the recieving pony is behaving!) I need to do some more standing still and not moving whatever I'm touching practice with them all though, just what cold, wet nights are for!
Celtie got shut in Choc's stable whilst waiting for tea this evening (with nothing to eat) and didn't throw a strop which I was very pleased about. She won a carrot much to Vanty's displeasure as he thought he deserved one as well!
So sorry it's a boring post, just what we did today without any cute pony pics to break it up!
What clippers does everyone else have/use? I'll start a post in horsey Chat if you'd like to reply there please.
Thank you all!
