I am looking to get a light weight flexible english saddle for Lyle for the days when we are not riding western (the saddle weighs a ton) and fancy something like a semi flex . What is the difference between the Barry Swain semi flex and the saddle known as the Kay Humphries mondial?
Are both made to a template like a treed saddle?
Thanks

The semi-flex can be made to a template, as it is a treed saddle. I am not sure about the Mondial as I believe it is 'treeless'. I've tried both; I hated the Mondial but the semi-flex is the best treed saddle I've ever had and the width can be altered by Barry Swain if needed. It's an expensive but quality saddle, very well made

The semi-flex is the black WH saddle I have for Harvey which you've seen. The Mondial is an almost treeless saddle which I trialled a few years ago. You saw it at the time as you happened to visit while I had it on tiral. It was very well made and Harvey went nicely in it but it was too tight at the wither for him and was fairly heavy for a treeless saddle. I think the design may have changed a bit now though.

Thanks Gill/Pam. I was pretty sure that Gill had a semi flex but wanted to double check on yours, Pam. I remember you trying the mondial now. It was tight over the wither wasn't it.
I do like the look of the semi-flex saddle so I think I might try and get a second hand one and see how Lyle goes in it. I intend showing him western pleasure this year so I won' spoil his paces by doing english wih him, but in 2010 I'd ;ike to do english and maybe some of the other western events where he can afford to get away with quicker paces.
