Just thought for those of you who aren't sure how long haylage keeps - I can confirm that if it's well wrapped, it keeps for at least two and a half years! I had ten bales given to me from the farmer who cuts my fields, three summers ago. I didn't use any of them as I had so much grass over the subsequent two winters and was about to get my farmer to take them for his cows or give them away as I thought they wouldn't be any good. Last summer I managed my fields differently and the grass has been kept down but I also had their winter field cut again in October which meant there was less grass covering when they moved into it. As a result they ate the grass right down by early January and needed extra feeding, so I tentatively opened up the haylage bales. They are fantastic and like they were only baled last summer! I am so glad I hung onto them ..
