I'm sure you've all met Axel before, but I thought I'd start his own thread in the spangly new youngsters section. Axel is a purebred Cleveland Bay, born on the 4th April 2008, named Afondale Calon Lan. Here's a couple of pictures taken when we first went to see him and fell in love with him... And his first day at home... He's such a lovely natured lad and takes everything in his stride. I just hope I can do him justice!

I love CBs and he's a handsome young chap. I look forward to hearing of his progress. What are your plans for him in the future?

Thanks We're hoping to do a bit of everything with him really. He'll be for both me and Mike to ride eventually. But longterm I'd like to take my jumping a bit further and maybe try some eventing

Yeah he should be fairly big. His dad was 16.1 but mum was 17.3!

Yes thay can be. He certainly knows how to wind Jay up already. Jay will tell him off for something and Axel will revert to his baby lip smacking to appease him, then go straight back to bugging him again! ;D Though they do get on very well most of the time. Jay even lets hm share his pile of haylage, which is unheard of for Jay

Just a quick update on Axel as I haven't posted on here for a while. I'm really pleased with how he's progressing We went to another show on Sunday to do the yearling class. It was quite a big class and there were some VERY naughty babies there....but Axel was a little star. He was really excited when we got there, but soon settled and was an absolute angel in the ring However we disn't have much luck and were pulled in last which was a bit disheartening I didn't get Axel with a show career in mind, we're only doing some shows for experience to get him out and about, but I still felt a bit disheartened by it. I'm feeling a bit like an over protective mum i guess....they'll soon change their minds when he grows into a 'beautiful swan'!

Judges 'eh! Just how thick were his/her glasses I think he's smashing and I'd rather have a well behaved baby than a prima-donna super model Don't feel too disheartened. Axel will have his day at another show

Definitely a blind judge. I'm another who'd rather have a well behaved youngster than a ribbon. Don't worry, you'll move up as he matures and comes into himself. He really is a handsome boy!!!

Oh that's a shame - but remember it's only ONE person's decision on ONE day - I've taken sheep to shows and at one they'll be champion in the breed section, yet at the next show they're not placed The main thing is he behaved himself and was a credit to you. Shows are great for getting them used to being out and about, hanging around etc.
