I feel like I'm looking at a bikini. You see the price, and then the ...ahem, lack of materials, and wonder why the price is so high? ;D
That said, I'm very curious to see what you make of it Van! Will you get to try it on Merlin?

Well said Deb, I was thinking along the same lines as you to be honest, its just that all the endurance riders that compete at quite a high level swear by them and say there horses have never gone so well not only that but the muscles on the horses back look amazing and you never seem to get the wastage on the muscle behine the whither that you see on a lot of horses, I will just have to see how I get on....in some ways I hope I hate it lol!!!

I'm also curious to see what you make of it. I don't think it would offer enough support for me but I can see how the horse could benefit.

But you know, if it works, it works! Look at the McClellan saddles. There's really not a lot to them, and yet that design worked brilliantly for the US Calvary for years. They needed their horses to arrive fit for battles after long, ardous treks.
I'm curious to see what you make of it, and will you be trying it on Merls? Or your friend's pony?

Van, a friend of mine did endurance up to 50 milers in a FnE on a cob who was notoriously difficult to fit a saddle to - he never had back trouble and never grew so much as one white hair. She competed with him well into his 20's and swore by it for him.
She tried it on her new horse, a part bred Arab and didn't get on with it at all, so as with all saddles it's a case of horses for courses I suppose.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of it, Van. I don't mean to be ignorant - but I am - so please forgive this question.......where do the girth and stirrups attach to?

You can see the fenders in the pic Sue, as for the girth I have no idea, but will let you know when I have been down to Bexs next week. I will be trying it out on Peanuts, Bexs endurance horse, I have ridden him before Deb and he is lovely, if I decide to go ahead, I would need to order one for Merls and would have the opportunity to trial that one, I am lucky that Bexs is the Free n Easy fitter for my area so she will make sure that all is well before I go ahead and I know she will be honest with me as far as the fit of the saddle not just on Merls but whether it suits me also, as I have said I cringe at the price, but I have heard some really good things about this saddle and I really like the idea of getting some weight off Merls back especially as I really want to up the distance with him and hopefully do a novice season with him next year.

How ideal!! I'm positive Bex will ensure its the best fit for you and Merls if that's a route you go down. As for the cost, just keep in mind, if this one truly fits and is comfy for you and Merls, it will be worth every single pence. Nothing beats quality. LOL, love the name 'Peanuts' ;D

If its right for the horse & you can afford go for it! I spent £900 on my Fylde saddle and its fantastic, it fits just right & looks the business, plus it will last for years.
