I have got a while yet, but i am off to British show jumping at the NEC next month, so thought it might be worth looking out for a few bits and pieces.
I am doing my riding holiday along the pennies in July, what sort of day bags for the pony and me would you recommend and what sort of gear what you advice i must take with me.
Saddle bags etc i will use, so not worried about treating myself, as we do, do a few all day long pub rides in the summer etc.
We have got someone who will be moving our stuff on to our next B&B, so that isn't much of an issue.

Firstly make sure you have a good numnah and girth/girth sleeve. Sheepskin is brilliant. Also have spares so you always have dry ones. I use a good sized and well-padded bum-bag for a day bag - with a few first aid items and a sharp knife. I got a cantle bag from performance equestrian with lots of pockets and bottle holders (very important!). Here's a link to a thread about bags dalesfans.proboards102.com/index.cgi?board=gear&action=display&thread=7936Get buckets with lids for water, and bag up your feeds before you go to save taking the whole bags with you. Comfy well paddded jods too! I'll think more over the next few days and see what else I think of!

I always carry a small first aid kit for humans you can get them now really small, and I agree with Jane in carrying plenty of fluids, dehydration on a longer ride is just not funny, glucose tabs are a good idea.

I'm not an endurance rider but it's something I'd love to do. Just want to say good luck with your pennines trip. Sounds fantastic. The advice is really good and some of the items are relevant for us happy hackers too. ....And I would eat Heathera's snickers bar whether I had low blood sugar or not

A penknife too. And a pair of pliers.
My endurance first aid kit (compulsory) contains all the things Heather has said, plus I usually also have glucose tablets (for either of us), a muesli bar, a pen and paper, penknife, lip salve and triangular bandage.

I still love the saddle bag I got from performance equestrian. I've used it and washed it and it's great.
Word of warning re chocolate - don't take it on hot days...it makes an awful mess LOL. But fantastic on cooler rides.

That's where muesli bars come into their own - not as good as chocolate but not bad!
