Dan is quite slim and fit now im managing to get out about 3 times a week for about an hours ride, maimly trotting with plenty of hill work.
the last couple of rides hes felt a bit sluggish.
i wonder about giving him more corn. hes on just happy hoof at the moment with a bit of sugar beet.
i wondered about getting hifi light and a mix of some sort.
but as hes had laminitus im unsure what to to??
any ideas?

Are you sure it's not just the spring grass coming through and the warmer weather making him sluggish? Harvey was like this a week ago so I took him off the bigger field and he seems more lively again.

The best thing I find for energy without weight gain and fizz is Dodson andHorrell Staypower muesli. Harley does all his endurance on this, including 40 milers. You can build it up before a competition, and then drop it right back down gradually in-between times to keep the weight down.
The other thing you could try is soya oil - you can get horse branded stuff, but Tesco also sell it, Soyola I think it's called - much cheaper!

I don't suppose it will matter LOL! Start him off on it slowly and build it up - the most Harley gets is a mug a day.

I always unsure about feeding any sort of comp mix this time of year, but i have now moved Sparky off his winter feeds on to Bailey's Lo-Cal mix. He looked fab on it last summer and hopefully he will do as well on it again this year. It is expensive, but you don't need to feed very much so last a long time. Well worth a try.

Hi I too am having energy probs with my girl. She is naturally lazy and will get out of doing things if she wants. I have moved to a new yard 1mth ago- it is very hilly- her field is on an incline. She has had lami 3yrs ago so very wary of what she eats. She is on safe & sound ( half a round scoop per feed x 2 daily+ laminaze). She has 3 slices of soaked hay at night and wears a muzzle for half a day aswell- she is a very good doer and puts weight on easily.
I now am having to use spurs as I'm like a pony clubber constantly kicking her -which I hate doing- so trying spurs just to wake her up. she is so laid back , lovely but its very hard on my legs !!! the hills are fab and am gradually building her up in trot getting up them any other advice much appreciated. thx
