I worked with Cowboy yesterday. I got my bridle, saddle pad, bit, and exercise sheet out. Not that he had them all on at once. But...to get him introduced to it so it is no big deal later.
The exercise sheet was first. I forgot it was a pony eatting exercise sheet. He snorted and was very heads up. Cowboy in his good nature did not run, buck, nor rear. He was really concerned. Just rubbed him in his normal happy scratch spots then started to rub him with the sheet. Thank god I have been rubbin and scratching him from the time I got him. It is his comfort / relax thing. He seems to relax quick when I rub him. I placed the sheet on the ground for him to check out. It may be a pony eatting sheet but Cowboy wanted a bite of it first.
I showed him the saddle pad next. Again....it ate ponies. I did the same things as I did with the sheet. I could not help but laugh when he tried to eat it.
Next I showed him the bridle. Let him smell it and did a rub with it. He didn't think it would eat him.
Showed him a bit. Let him smell it. He took it in his mouth without issue. This was just in my hands (not attached to bridle).
Showed him my treeless saddle. Pony eatting saddle. He snorted and was at full attention. I let him smell it and was rubbing him with it on his side and back. When he was relaxed I placed it on his back. Let him inspect it while it was there. He did very well. Didn't freak out. Took saddle off and let him smell it again. No longer a pony eatting saddle.
I went back to the exercise sheet. Did the rub thing again. Relaxed. I put it on correctly on him. (I know it is a bit small) Bless him.
(he is the ONLY pony let alone horse in this state with reflective anything)
I wanted to intro him to things at an easy pace so he is like o that.....I know that! I have got to say he is a complete angel!
