My Freya seems to have a really weepy eye!, I have bathed it then it seems ok for a few days, not sure if it was some dusty hay, or just the warmer weather we ve had. but I have noticed that the 2 Shetties eyes have been mucky too.
Also have changed recently from shavings to straw bedding for them, could it be that too? any advice appreciated, thanks

I would suspect shavings dust which used to effect my old lad james in this way. I used to use Gold eye ointment from the chemist. be careful you don't pass any infection on from one eye/pony to another via bathing etc. and if there are any other signs or if the eyes don't clear up/get worse/look sore i would ask you vet.

Cold, used teabags are brilliant for cleansing eyes. Dampen them a bit more if need be - and remember 1 teabag per eye so not to pass on germs. Golden eye ointment - I think its called Brolene now- thats good. Good luck x

Golden eye is good- but it isn't licensed for use in animals so shouldn't be sold as we are no longer allowed to sell human medicines for animal use.... It is available as ointment or drops and is behind the counter in the pharmacy It is used to treat minor eye infections.

Frankie always has weepy eyes and theya re just starting to get worse, think it's the time of year imagine hayfever on yourself! Frankie has a very dark mesh fly mask that he wears almost 24/7 especially in bright sunshine not just for the flies! He does however have cataracts starting so could be related to changes in his eyes aswell.

My girl Cass gets weepy eyes every summer. I wipe underneath eye with a baby wipe when she comes in and put a smear of vaseline under eye area before she goes out to stop the liquid from taking the fur off. I haven't found anything to stop them running...think it may be like hayfever. A fly fringe stops her getting flies homing in on them when she's out!!

Galahad came to me with nonstop tearing eyes last year. I promptly put him into a flymask which he has on anytime its warm enough for the flies to be out and about. I also did an overall detox for him since he's older and has some wear n tear. And lastly, I've been giving him homeopathic tablets for hayfever. It works brilliantly!!! I still use a fly mask on him to keep the flies from irritating his eyes, but his eyes look the best since I've gotten him. The tearing has all but stopped ...knock on wood!

What colour is it - if it's clear or white I would just keep cleaning it. If it's goes yellow or green it usually means it's infected and I would get the vet for eyedrops. FLies tend to spread it between animals too.

One of our Fell Ponies always has runny eyes when his teeth need doing - they are done every 6 months as a matter of course but his eyes start running about 2/3 weeks before the appointment - teeth done - eyes fine!

Old Jenny's eyes weep a bit most of the time, but she's such a truculent old biddy she won't let me catch her. When I do get her i clean them up and there's never any infection, its just part of her.
