Has anybody tried these? I got one for the dogs and have to say it's fab. They certainly aren't cheap but are far more effective than any of my other shedding blades/brushes. I've been using the dog one on my horses but it's a little small, so I've splashed out on a horse one! They are like fine clipping blades and the hair doesn't fly all over the place like it can with other brushes/blades. www.feedem.co.uk/horse-117/horse-grooming-159/company-animals-furminator-deshedding-7585.htm

I saw these demonstrated on a Shopping channel onthe TV Gill....it looked really good. Glad to know that the canine one is as good as it looked.

I LOVE my furminator, got the dog one and its been the best tool for shedding I've ever had, the hair it brings out is amazing and the horses seem to enjoy being worked on with it.

No, they don't cut the hair at all, they just clear out and drag out the loose undercoat, its like a more precise and intense version of a rubber curry comb i guess? I was a bit worried they would cut the hair but it doesn't, just drags out the undercoat and it has to be shifting first before its any good. I wouldn't use it on anything with a fine coat to start with but its fantastic for those thick double layer coats.

It works on the same principle as a shedding blade but has very finely cut teeth and manages to get a huge amount out with each 'sweep' even thought the blade itself is quite small. You don't have to press hard (if you do you might hurt the animal!) and it's very effective .

So does it work on the same principle as those "smart-thinners"? I used one of those on Winnie last year and found it good but it did cut hair. This sounds better?

Having used Gill's on Dancer today, I can say that it definitely doesn't cut the hair. It is just like a very fine-toothed comb and gets loads of coat out with just a gentle sweep through the hair. It doesn't seem to pull or tear - just gathers up the loose hair.
I use a rubber curry comb on Bea followed by a fine-toothed dog grooming comb. The teeth aren't as fine as the Furminator's.....but it does seem to do the trick for a fraction of the price.
If I had the cash, I'd probably get a Furminator just for the ease of use. But failing that I'll stick to my current method...Bea seems to enjoy it and it help me to shed a few cals into the bargain! LOL

Gill, I love you, you may of saved a marriage lol. We have a white GSD, who maults all year round, it is a real bone of contention between me and hubby (moan moan about the dogs hairs on his works clothes). Ordered one from ebay £6.89 including the package, couldn't believe how cheap we got it after seeing how expensive they were on other sites. Well it really was like watching one of their demonstration videos, the amount of under hair that came out was just unbelieveable, and it definiteatly doesn't cut the hair, you can feel the under hair being lifted out. It is going to take me quite a few days to get Bruno all done, my back gave way in the end lol. So thank you for the recommendation, they should have you on commission lol.
