Good news it's not grass sickness but odd that there should be so much damage from tape worm if the worming programme has been done correctly....I'll keep fingers crossed the pony recovers quickly now they know what the problem is.

That's good about grass sickness but not tapeworms if you have a good worming programme. Like the others fingers crossed for the pony! Hope all is going to be okay!

He has been now given 40/60 chance of survival as wont eat and is stressing. uproar at yard as we wormed 2 weeks ago with Pramox and now vets advice is to double dose all with strongid on sat and keep stabled til tues morn, fields are being padlocked shut as half yard refusing to worm again.

That is awful, Shell. Poor pony, fingers crossed he makes it and what a worry for you all with ponies there. Can you not get them blood tested for tape worm as this pony could be a "one off" with an unusual problem?

baron I"m so sorry you lost your colt to grass sickness Relieved to hear this pony doesn't have it, but seems to have caused major upheaval on your yard with it having a tapeworm. Poor pony, I just hope it will settle down and begin mending.

How's the pony doing now Shell? I think you should all sit down and discuss things with the vet and each other to see where it has gone wrong, and to try to prevent it happening again.

Just had text from owners, they lost the lad a few hours ago. RIP Wonka, pain free now.

Spoke to his owner tonight and it broke my heart, they took the kids down to see him and he went for a walk dragging them to the grass got him back in stable kids disappeared and he dropped to the floor, kids came back and he struggled to his feet neighing. The kids finally left and he literally closed his eyes and dropped down and couldn't/wouldn't get up and the desicion was made to let him go. That fantastic little pony waited til he'd seen his kids before he gave in and decided it was his time to go. Animals are so intuative they never cease to amaze me.
