I don't post much - but I'm an addicted lurker so just wanted to post about my beloved dog, Zak who was sadly put to sleep on 17th Mack 2009. We had owned him for just over 14 very happy years and he was approx. 15 or 15 1/2 years old. We had him from a rescue centre when he was 12 or 18 months old in a very neglected state, he was terrified of his own shadow. But he grew strong to be the healthy, happy dog and was a joy to own. Unfortunately he started to have fits last October – we rushed him to the vets but they choose not to put him on medication because the side effects would have been worse than the fits, they thought it was epilepsy or maybe a problem with his brain. They told us to monitor him as he was still fit and strong and had a active life. He coped with them well and only had them every few months and continued to be an active and happy dog. However the were becoming more frequent in the new year and we knew the end would be coming soon, we didn’t want his quality of life to suffer and knew we would have to make a decision when he began to have more bad days. RIP Zak – you made me smile everyday and my memories of you continue to make me smile Sleep well my angel x

He looks to be a real poppet...you must miss him terribly. It's hard to make that dreadful decision to let them go but it was the right one even if it still hurts. RIP Zak.

What a lovely dog. You gave him the loving home he needed after such an awful start to life - and you gave him an easy and loving passing when the time came. He's at peace now.....
What a wonderful tribute to him that the memory of him makes you smile.

What a beautiful little dog Zak was! These rescue dogs are just so rewarding, they all have their own special little problems but seem to give so much love. Well done you for giving him such a lovely life and also for giving him a dignified end.
Rest in peace Zak.
