Just spoken to Linda! She's moved into the caravan because she's not quite happy to leave D alone tonight.
Not really many signs of labour, but D has been standing with her head on Linda's chest which she only does if she's stressed.
This is the question for breeders - the foal seems to be kicking a lot more, and the kicks are at the bottom of D's belly. Linda asks if this is significant in any way??
Sending loads of foalie thoughts to D......praying all goes well.

Is this the first time Linda has seen these movements? It could simply be what is known as "Pre-Stage 1" where, in the final 3 weeks of pregnancy, the foal starts to make reflex movements - extending its head, neck and forelimbs, in preparation for the positional change it must make to correctly enter the birth canal. These movements cause the "flurries of activity" that most mare owners spot. They usually last about 10-15 minutes each time. The movements are uncomfortable for the mare - she's getting a kick in the colon or kidneys and a foalie head into her bladder This could explain why D is in need of more love and assurance? You just need to check that she is still able to pee and poo normally. Many mares will get a bit colicky towards the latter stages, as the compression of the colon can cause a build-up of gas. I think you need to pay close attention now Linda, so moving into the caravan was a good choice! Are there any of the other classic changes - vulval length, slackening of the pelvic ligaments causing a hollow in the croup region, wax etc...? Good luck and try not to worry

Thanks Helen. D's bottom is "pointy" but no sign of vulval lengthening or waxing.
Will phone Linda and tell her about the kicking......
Gosh yes! I remember the feeling of baby head on bladder. My son was a massive baby and two weeks late and I swear he used my bladder for football heading practice in the last couple of weeks!

Don't rely on the waxing - many mares unfortunately don't give such a nice clear sign From what Julie has said, it's all sounding good. Tell Linda we're all thinking of her
