Remy has been unlevel since last Friday and yesterday and today has been markedly lame . I cannot find anything at all anywhere except for some heat in her o/s fore hoof. She had the trimmer come on Monday and he tested all hooves thoroughly with his hoof tester, but she didn't react at all. There were no discernible pulses, possibly the o/s fore was very slightly raised but hardly anything. Could this be an abscess brewing? or would that have shown up with the hoof testers? Typical as I'm going away for the weekend tomorrow

Could be an absess brewing. It might be high up in the foot which could be why she didn't really react to the testers

Oh no, Gill, what a worry just as you are going away. I suppose it could easily be an abscess brewing and wouldn't neccesarily have reacted to the hoof tester. Funnily enough I was listening to some people talking this evening about how many horses had suddenly gone lame this week. I suspect it must be related to the ground conditions going from boggy to rock hard over here. Fingers crossed it is just a minor tweak or an abscess.

Sounds like it to me unfortunately. But yes, the ground is very hard - could she have bruised her frog or heel?

Sabina went lame with the same symptons on Wednesday. Nothing ovbious so hoping as Pam says that it is a ground related issue.
I hope Remy is okay and you can enjoy the clinic worry free.

Yep, Sonny isn't sound either, not lame just looking bit sore, think it could be the ground, no heat, lumps bumps though...I almost prefer it when there is something to see, at least you have an idea of cause then!

It was a badly bruised sole, thankfully I managed to get a vet before I left for the clinic and he pared away some of her sole and there was extensive bruising around the front of her hoof. Have no idea how she could have done this as there isn't anything in her paddock but it could possibly have happened when she went in with the pigs, as some of the ground is quite rutted where they have been rooting. Anyway I am glad that is all it was, my biggest fear is always lami on my grass . She's still a bit unlevel but the vet said she might be uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. It's so frustrating as I had to cancel a clinic I was having for her and a few other horses on Thursday

Very frustrating, but at least now you know what the trouble is. Fingers crossed she heals quickly, poor lass.

Well at least you know what it is and it's nothing serious. I suspect the hard rutted ground we had before the recent rain caused a lot of bruised soles and tweaks.
