Hi All,
Tilly is now feeling a little stiff, both when we start working and also if she's been lying down. Nothing major at all, just not quite a free as she's been before.
So I'd like to give her a supplement to just help things a little.
Ideally I'd like something vegetarian, but I'd use cod liver oil. I do want to avoid meat products/by-products and shark by products if at all possible. Obviously if this stiffness gets worse I will use whatever she needs, but at this stage I don't think the stiffness is bad enough to justify breaking one of my ethical "things".
Any ideas/recommendations??
Many thanks
Olivia

Riaflex is my favorite but I'm not sure where it's derived from? Its glucosamine based. Or cortaflex? For stiffness I'd go with a glucosamine based product for every day use as there's some scientific research behind it

Is glucosamine from green lipped mussels? Either it or chondroitin is but i can't remember which!

CHrondrotin is from mammal cartilage (all the bits us humans tend not to eat - won't expand just in case people don't want to know but am happy to tell if people PM me).
Glucosamine generally comes from shell fish, so I think yet green lipped mussels. But they have now developed glucosamine from maize, but I can't source an equine version. If I can't track one down I'll have a look at giving her the human version.
Thanks all
Olivia

I think there is a vegie version for horses but not sure.
Linseed oil is supposed to have similar anti-inflam and protective properties as codliver oil. Also there seems to be a fair bit of research on rosehips helping with arthritis.

Was it yucca that was supposed to be the plant variation of this? I can't remember proper. I know yucca is supposed to help for arthritis, but can't remember how.
I've personally used and still use the green lipped mussles for myself to great success, but both Blossom and LadyBear flat refused their buckets with it. ? No ideas why.

Thanks everyone - someone has now pointed me in the direction of an equine vege glucosamine and I'll be investigating that and linseed as a starting point for Tilly.
Many thanks

Justa thought I've put Amber on Global Herbs strongbone and movefree plus with excellent results. All entirely herbal and they work. Might be that Tilly would benefit from just the move free as Amber has bad hocks the strongbone was recommended too.
