Ive tried every lotion & potion going to stop Sian from stamping her back feet but have had no success ; i took the plunge yesterday and had the vet jab her with Dectomax - anyone on here tried it, know of anyone thats tried it, what were the results Vet said that if she started stamping again in 7-10 days she'd need another jab as mite eggs had probably hatched and the drug only kills living critters, after that she may be cured for life or just need some as & when needed. I REALLY hope this works as i don't want to be clipping her feathers off

I use Dectomax on the sheep but haven't used it for the horses. It does internal parasites for sheep as well as the scab mites.
I hope it works for Sian.

Yes, my friend at the yard uses it and it really works well and her horse seems to suffer really badly without the injection.
I've been able to keep Bill's itching at bay with Frontline in the past.

So far so good TQ, we had to have two jabs in the end as after two weeks she started stamping again BUT since the 2nd one . . . nothing With her winter coat coming thru now she's started getting very thick scurf/dandruff but no stamping, I'm just going to see how she goes and over this weekend Pig Oil her up

Dancer used to be a very stampy pony. He came to me with feather mites, so i clipped them all off and started again. I bed on shavings, which really helps as they are naturally antibacterial and obviously dont hold the mites that straw does and i use Footstamp (AKA Pestoban) made by Global Herbs. www.globalherbs.co.uk/horse/2004_pages/skin_condition.htmIts wonderful stuff! Gets rid of those stampies no problem and lasts ages. Although, sometimes i do wonder if it is habit!!

I've used it for Jake for a long time but one dose is no good. It has to be given fortnightly for 2 doses and then one or two four weeks apart. I now use the pour on stuff for sheep as getting the vet out is so expensive especially when you know its going to be every spring and Autumn. Straw makes it worse. I have used that Global Herbs stuff too which is very effective but is a little tricky when you just have a muddy field!!

We used pig oil and sulphur on our working Shires full feathers throughout the winter months and never had any problems - other than me getting in a mess! Have used dectomax (injected) on our younger Percheron. She had 2 jabs about 7 years ago and has not had a problem since.

I used dectomax on all of mine this year, two jabs two(?) weeks apart and it seems to have worked (fingers crossed), though it was very expensive at £40 per pony. Amy has always been bad and I'd never managed to stop it totally with Frontline and didn't like to use that whilst the baby was growing and suckling on her so she was really bad this year. Vet said use surgical spirits and kerosene mix ut haven't tried that. My hoof lady has had sucess with neem oil which I will try over winter.

Neem Oil is brilliant - although I have ever only used it on humans Kids headlice and my eczema). I can really see it working for mites. Got to be worth a try - look it up on google, there are lots of websites there where you can order online

my pony used to stamp and bite his legs a lot, the vet gave him the two dectomax injections but they didnt work at all. I changed his feed to 100% natural feeds and this seems to have eased the stamping quite a lot
