I'm not sure I will. I've got this idea that it will just happen naturally. If D gets really poor then I will have to. I haven't seen any reason to up to now. I don't want to ride D, I don't want to put her in foal again so she might as well carry on being the wonderful Mum she is. Penley is quite happy to have little trips away from his Mum when I do a bit of grooming, walking in hand or trailer training. When he returns to the field though he immediately goes to the milk bar! He has to ask politely though as D is quite viscous when she tells him off!

I bet he makes at least 14hh then!
D is looking fab! You've done really well to keep them all looking so good over the summer.

Just got a chance to read all this Linda, it's such fun to see you working with little Penley & how he's grown & progressed. Bringing him along slowly & gently as you have will bring such benefits for him all his life. I bet he makes a fabulous ridden pony. I bet Sue is right that he makes atleast 14hh, so cute to see him evey bit as big as D at this age. I agree with you about just letting weaning happen. I did this with Topaz and her very elderly mother Gypsy did eventually tell her off engough to mostly wean her. But Gypsy would have a weak moment every not & then to would let Topaz nurse sometimes. A she got older Topaz seemed to nurse more for the comfort factor than the milk. Thanks for writing about Penly Linda, it's so fun to read, nearly like getting to see him grow up.
