I think Lady has heel mites, she often rubs her hind fetlocks together, and also rubs down her back legs onthe water trough. My friends cob does this and he was diagnosed with heel mites. (never been in contact with mine, I think she's had them before I had her). Before she foaled, I washed them in Dermisol anti lice shampoo, left it on for 10 mins, before rinsing, but it only worked for a couple of weeks. My friend uses frontline on hers but I am not sure if this is advisable as she is nursing. She never seems to rub the front ones though. Should I wait until little un is weaned and then use frontline or does anyone know of anything else I can use?

gypsyhorses.webs.com/pigoilandsulphur.htmHave tried to reply in detail but failed have a look at the above web site. I use frontline spray as some of mine are a nightmare, chewing feathers, I am now trying Stop It All mixed with Pig oil Let me know if I can help any more.

I had a cob that suffered also, but pig oil and sulphur has sorted it out. My new cob had a attack also but his old owner used pig oil and it cleared it up too

I think with little one still suckling that you might want to stick with the pig oil and sulfur. Frontline is usually recommended, but I'm not sure what that would do to the mare's milk.

A few of ours have had heel mites and we got them jabbed from the vet which cleared them right up. However the jab is a very strong dose of womer so probs won't be suitable with a foal at foot?

Dectomax is one of the injections used - two 4 weeks apart. We also used diacotomous earth!

I've heard that Dectomax is very effective, but not licensed for use on horses - it's a cattle wormer isn't it?
I think a vet can administer it, provided the client signs a waiver?

I use this for mites and general skin conditions on his legs: its called Footstamp (used to be called Pestoban) by Global Herbs www.globalherbs.co.uk/horse/2004_pages/skin_condition.htmIts fantastic stuff. And i know it appears a bit pricy but you only use a little bit - it lasts for ever.
