Thats a very nice carriage, Heather!!
Very similar looking to our Crowland Gig. You could do private driving classes with that - previous owner of ours did lots of private driving with it.
I do hope it fits Rose ok - like I say, it looks a very similar size to ours, and that fits Molly a treat. And hope you manage to get transport sorted.

That IS a nice carriage!! Congratulations!!! I was so excited when I got my Harleygig and harness.
I'm sure rose will take to it as easily as Harley did - she's calmer than him in general from what I've seen LOL!
What's the problem with Drummer?

Well we're not going much faster Heather - Harley has been broken to harness for nearly 4 years now and we STILL haven't got much further than the lanes and tracks around home!! But we love it when we do it, Mike thinks it is great too and that's what it is all about. Plus for the future if it comes to it that I can't ride, at least we can drive.
You and Rose will love it. Just don't forget to breathe LOL!!

I used to enjoy nothing better than a drive out along country lanes, with a flask and a picnic - or a pub stop!! You see so much more going at a nice leisurely pace. Since being involved in a couple of nasty carriage accidents last year, I have not actually driven myself, and no longer have the desire to do so.
I was persuaded by a friend to go on the grooms seat when she took her pair of Haflingers out for a drive, and have groomed at shows a couple of times. I am supposed to be grooming at a show we are at this weekend, but to be honest would be quite relieved if someone else wants to do it.
As to driving at shows - probably the best idea is to find a local show with driving classes, and enter an exercise class. Once you have done a few it gets better. Hopefully there will not be too many in the class, and there is plenty of space for you. Its when its a big class, the go round can be a bit hair raising.
As to comments, well, its like any showing. You will always have the "ringside commenters" as with any showing, but ignore them!! I am sure you will want to drive at shows one day, but even if you don't - it doesn't matter!! You can get plenty of enjoyment just driving out down country lanes.

I also have no desire to show. Having turned out pairs of heavies for trade classes, I have had my fill of cleaning and polishing leather harness, brass and posh vehicles Just plodding along a quiet lane, field or track with a stop for some light refreshment is good enough for me. There's a French Driving Club near us and that's all most of them do too, so we may join in with them next year if Pagan proves up for it. Have fun Heather - it's a super vehicle

Sorry, I did not mean to be overly pushy or anything Heather, just trying to be encouraging, not put you off ! Sorry Heather ! Just thought it would give you a good goal to work towards and have something to aim for . Have had a thought about shows that are kind of local for you. Unfortunately, you seem to be quite a way from any of them really but I would have thought that your most handy shows would be Ayr, then maybe Dundonald and also Kilmures , and more my way is Hopetoun House then maybe Border Union at Kelso. You are a long way from a lot of them which are in Fife area. There is Fife Show, Central & West Fife, Kinross, Gleneagles, Alyth, Doune & Dunblane etc. So I would guess that Ayr might be your nearest one to aim for in the future. You seem to be in an unfortunate area which makes you a long way from most of the shows. I am lucky in that respect that I am no more than 1hour 45 min from pretty much all the driving shows up here. The only ones I don’t do are Black Isle and Turriff which are way up North and the Castle Kennedy and Langholm which are too far South as well. I do 12 driving shows in a full season (also other ridden and in-hand shows over and above that as well but we drive at 12 shows a year ) , we did not do that this year, only 7 this year due to my Landrover blowing up at the start of the year we had a slightly delayed start to the season but its good that we can get to the majority of the shows in Scotland without too much bother so its unfortunate that your location makes things a bit more difficult travelling wise. I also wanted to make sure that you would not be put off doing an “Exercise Vehicle” class because you did not have the gear. I have the spares kit, apron, lamps and good bamboo whip (mock Holly) (I have a spare one) that you are more than welcome to borrow when/if you do a show. The driving crowd are sooo much more friendly than the ridden showing lot, don’t worry about that one ! You will be more than made welcome to any show you go to There seems to be a lot more camaraderie among the drivers. We are a small, tight knit group and all help each other out, example if someone has forgot something or needs something etc. There is none of the nasty, bitchy nonsense that can go on in the ridden showing scene and the judges are all very helpful especially in the exercise classes where the drivers and ponies are likely to be more novice. Please don’t be put off showing by your experience a couple of years ago at the Highland, its not like that with the driving at all ! In fact, the Highland is really not such a bad show to drive at, it’s a good size ring, its not got too much going on round the ring etc, there are way worse shows, take Perth last weekend, I have never driven is such a buzzy, atmospheric ring in all my life. Every turnout was well on its toe’s with the atmosphere and it’s a good job the majority of the drivers were pretty experienced, even if a couple of us were in with new novice ponies this season. I was soo pleased with the way Murphy coped and held it together, a certain young stallion did not walk a pace the entire class and trotted all the way, even when we were supposed to be walking and just circling when he caught up with the turnout in front. He never even stood still or walked during his individual show at all ! Murphy really coped well and held it together great, he walked and halted when required and did not let it get to him. It was not I ring or a show I would have liked an inexperienced driver to be in. We had pipe bands at the ringside, the public at least two deep all the way round the ring, stands and beer tents right at the rings side, big Clydesdales heavy horse turnouts passing us in the way in etc. The Highland is a piece of cake to drive in compared to last weekend !
