Every time that I try and school Blue - usually on a Tuesday night under the lights I have a terrible Tuesday. He spooks at everything, especially the cows, sticks his nose in the air and charges round like a loon. I do lots of circles in random places and on both reins and also lots and lots of transitions. Last night, I tried canter as the other 2 people moved themselves down the other end of the school. I was kind of embarrassed as we charged round our half of the school. Having been all negative, I also ride him on a Weds and Thurs in the school under the lights and he is always as good as gold and I can practise dressage tests to my heart's content. I would appreciate any advice - I reckon its a temper tantrum after having a lovely weekend out hacking.

No, being honest I don't expect him to be bad on a Tuesday - Perhaps it's just the first schooling session of the week and he does get quite excited when there are other people in the school.

Why don't you give him a couple of Tuesdays off, then see if he's still the same when you start again

That's good idea. I also wonder about putting poles out or doing some in hand work so he doesn't concentrate on what is happening outside the school.

Are the same horses in the school with you on a Weds & Thurs?
You're lucky it's only one day a week - James detests school work on any day of the week!
See you Saturday?

Does something happen somewhere else on Tuesday night - brownie pack in the local village hall, country and western night in hte local pub??? Something that you can't hear, but loud enough to just wind Blue up??? It must be very infuriating for you though!!! Personally I'd just make Tuesday a rest day Olivia

I usually ride on my own and it is just as exciting. I have no idea if there is an outside influence - he is very aware of what is going on outside the school so possibly.
Looking forward to Saturday - Blue does love TREC!

This is really interesting - I'd love to know if you do discover why Tuesday is such a difficult day. Bea gets irritable and uncooperative if I try and school him two days in a row - digging his heels in a bit!
I think it's a great idea to do ground work or poles or something different on Tuesdays for a while - maybe break the cycle.

Rode tonight with same 2 people in the school and lights on. Well we did walk to canter transitions and then trot to halt as well as leg yielding along a pole. Ponies huh!

Why not give Tuesdays a miss and see if he reacts the same way when you first ride again. Then you'll know if it's because he is throwing a tantrum after hacking or if it's something about Tuesdays!
