Waterside Rosemary 7th May 1984 to 20th January 2010.
Rose was purchased 14 years ago, 10 months after I had major spinal surgery. Still walking with a stick everyone thought I was mad purchasing another Dales. The other one was in his mid 20s and I was desperate to conitinue with horses. The old saying the less you can do the more you want to do it. I was only given a 40% chance of walking again so to buy another horse was madness. Rose was purchased as a ride and drive. The thought was if I couldnt ride I would drive. Well that didnt last long. Rose was very forward going and would not giveway to other traffic when driven, although 150% traffic proof. We think she may have been road raced when younger. Her forte was to go from A to B as quick as possible BUT she was very safe (well for me) You did not pull on her reins, verbal commands were enough. This was great for my back problems. So we started to do fun rides then endurance rides. We went the length and breath of the country doing endurance rides. So as you can imagine I owe an awful lot to Rose.
Rose died very suddenly, she developed a cough one evening. The next day the vet was called. A young female vet came out and said it was a allergy (although it was very cold and snowing) an injection of Duphacort Q (a steroid) was given. In the afternoon she was worse, the same vet came out and gave her another injection of Planipart (Ventalin) within a minute may be two Rose way dead. NOT NICE FOR A COUGH. I wasnt going to have a postmortem, I couldnt do that to her.
My other two dales would not go up in to the top field for days after, even though Rose didnt die there. Still now they will not stay in that field long. I think they are still waiting for her to come out of her stable. R.I.P. ROSE.
