cripes! Merlin is a big lad. That wasnt obvious when he was at the foal show was it Heather! I always find this interesting. We have two sisters and they are both completely different in stature and structure. Only thing they have in common is fabulous legs!

LOL... and Blossom at 4.5 years is still 13.1 at the withers. We did think she was 13.2 at one point, but it was found she was stood up on a rock What are you feeding? ...and they grow and grow... and grow... Shall I send you a brick from our fields? ;D

Fillies do tend to grow much more in proportion than colts, its the reason why they are so much easier to show imo and why colts have to hide away when they go through much fugly stages ime Like you say, most Dales don't come into their own until age 7/8 and certainly are no-where near fully mature until then. My rising three year old has just measured at 14.1hh for his licensing, and will expect him to go full up 14.2hh/14.3hh but that suits me perfectly.

Harley had a poor start in life and still made 15.1hh - maybe the less we feed, the more they grow LOL!

I find the whole height thing very interesting. Ben has grown loads in this last year, he was 13.3hh at this time last year and he has def put on 2 inches and is standing at 14.1hh at the minute.
I love the pics Heather!!!

Bless his heart, Merlin will come into his own in time....and I'm sure he'll be a surprising head turner when he does.

Musky has gone dreadfully bum high and will dwarf James (14.1) if the front ever catches up. Given my aeronautical riding ability I was hoping for 14 to 14.2..........he'll be 3 in May too. I keep meaning to measure their "bone" now someone has explained that its the circumference beneath the knee.

I know I've had a glass of wone or two but I'm puzzled. I have measured Penley today and looked for this thread to post his measurements and compare. Have you deleted part of your post Heather or am I lookjng at the worng thread???
Penley is 11.2 at the front end and 12.1 at the back! He is 10 months old. (or nealry)
How does that compare and what do you think he will make?
