I was just wondering what you'd suggest to put weight onto the welsh sec d that I've got for a few months, Zorro. He was underweight and wormy when he arrived. He's put a bit of weight on but there's still a way to go. At the moment he's out 24 hours a day, but I wouldn't say our grass is amazing quality and there isn't particularly lots of it. I'm not used to feeding horses up.....Jay and mini me seem to be permanently on diets!!!
I don't really want to give him something that will fizz him up...he's very reactive and flighty at the moment, so it could be a recipe for disaster! Our local feed shop has something called 'Calm and Condition' made by Allen and Page.....has anyone tried it, and does it work?
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions, thanks

if hes been wormed and grazing 24/7 then i would give him access to ad lib hay........it will put weight on. give it a couple of weeks and see how he has progressed, if he hasn't put much on, then maybe consider hard feed.

Thanks lancslass. I'll see how he goes over the next couple of weeks then. He has put a fair bit on already...I'm probably just expecting too much too soon. That and expecting all horses to gain weight as quickly as Jay does! lol

My welsh D is a bit hard and sharp too, he's on good grass, plus 1/2 lb sugar beet, and 2 lb 16+ and chop. He's been here nearly 4 weeks and I'm seeing a difference in him now. Where he was before the grass wasn't great and there were a fair few horses on it.
