A good pair of boot's for riding AND walking for men and for women.
Joe is going to want to ride more as we go out together and we will need boots each that we can ride AND walk in. None of my riding boots are really that comfortable for walking.
Joe needs WIDE walking boots.
I need boots that are fairly broad across the front end of my foot and narrow round the heel.
It took us ages to find walking boots that really fitted us so I guess it's going to be difficult to find a boot that will fit the bill for riding and walking. Just thought I'd see if any of you have any suggestions.

Just as a slight aside - in my TREC rule book it does say for safety reasons riding trainers (which they recommend because you can walk and ride in them) should be used with a stirrup cage because they lack the very defined heel you get on traditional riding boots....

I have a pair of Ariat boots, they were very comfy to start with, now I'm finding them not so comfy they feel like the padding in the sole has gone - although I have had them a few years; also they have absolutely no grip so not great in for muddy/rough ground. The newer ones maybe different ps I have wide fronts and fairly narrow heels

I like the mountain horse ones too, but found them a bit narrow (I have quite wide feet).
I ride, walk and work with sheep/cattle in my Muckboot Tymes - the riding boot one and find them very comfy, but they probably wouldn't be much good for going up hills.

That's a good point.... These seem to have a fairly decent heel though www.rideaway.co.uk/ariat-telluride-h20-boots--1/default.aspxWould need to wear chaps as well for riding though wouldn't you? To avoid rubbing....

I looked at the Ariat Telluride boots Sue, I just wondered if anyone had actually tried any of these and could make any recommendations?

I have the Telluride H2O boots (waterproofed) and have practically lived in them for two winters and continuing. As Sue says, they're not cheap, but they do hold up. The waterproofing and insulation are especially good. I still have my original pair and they are going on two or three years now, and they're still not leaking.
Zelda's right about them being slick, especially on the ball of the foot. This is to help your boot slip out of the stirrup in the event of a fall, but I really agree with Olivia regarding getting a boot cage for the stirrups. Better safe than sorry.
Regarding the padding in the boot, I have very high arches, so I tend to pad any of the boots/shoes I get. I've found with footpads, they're quite comfortable and I can switch out the footpads when they wear too thin.
Oohhhh, and I also found a brilliant, gel type heel shim that made walking in my Ariat's bliss!! They're done by Doctor Scholls, nice and squidgy material.

I have these boots Linda. I have been fell walking in them too. They are my second pair- I had the older version for several years until they eventually split due to the mud that eroded the leather.
I think they are great value for money and so comfy.

Which ones do you mean you have Jacqui? The Telluride or the Mountain Riders that Richy and Bev are talking about?

I've got both, Linda, but I meant the Arait boots. The Mountain Horse boots I have are slimmer in the foot than Ariats. Very comfy, but I haven't walked any real distance with them- just walked the dogs out, that sot of thing. I like riding in them. With the Ariats I have walked up to 8 hrs in them doing coastal walks.
