After Peigi slipped her foal last year, we had her checked out, made sure she was ready and popped her in with a colt who was starting to get ideas above his station for her to teach him some manners. She did that alright and, once she was sure he knew how to treat a lady, let nature take its course...... ;D Well, our vet reckoned that she could be due to foal as early as end March/beginning April. Here she is yesterday and the other side from the front She has started to slacken off around the tail, udder is big and tight but no waxing or milk from the teats. Yesterday she started kicking at her tum. I estimate she is around 2 weeks off, what do you all think?

If she has started kicking at her tum then she is showing signs of discomfort and so not long now then. Beau did this approx one week before foaling this year, Heather kicked her tum 3 days before foaling. Fingers crossed for you that all goes well.

Within a week I reckon and if she's anything like my girls you can guarantee it will be at the most inconvenient time for you, and in the most inconvenient place At least you can see she definitely has one inside her this year! Well done Peigi

sounds as if she is at the same stage as our girl maggie, she has the same tendency to give attention to her belly as well. Hopefully not too long, but how long is a piece of string?

Actually, I've been a bit naughty as what I didn't tell you is that Peigi's just finished a course of probiotics to settle her 'runs', so her tum-kicking could be a mild belly-ache. On the other hand, it could be the foal moving into position - who knows? I don't think she's slackened off enough yet (the sacral ligament allowing the pelvis to open for the foal), but I don't have a history of her breeding (or even know if she's foaled before). She was happily tucking into a good feed of haylage with all the others this morning and showing no signs of being further forward. I know what all the books say, I know what my experience tells me, but I don't know when and how Peigi's going to foal except that it will be in her own good time and her own way! Probably wait until it's 3am, lashing down with rain and blowing a gale so that I'm as uncomfortable as she is
