just wondered if any one has any tips for showing in hand. Am in the middle of our first season out, only lightly competing, mainly riding club., BUT am doing Cheshire County on Tuesday- yikes!!! So far have had 3rd as our highest placing and not much feedback from the judges. Sad to say one asked for the'fell' pony to line up next and another placed us below a pony that decided to get down and have a good old roll.
I presume that pony and handler should remain upright throughout the class??!!
Poppy is a bit too relaxed maybe, doesn't seem to get 'show nerves' and so maybe doesnt' show off. She's kind off long and stretched in he routline in the trot up. Any hints or tips greatly appreciated

At local... anything can happen. Oz was out a couple of weeks back at a decent local show and won the class. Today he was out in a not so decent one and came 6th out of 7- 2nd place he beat at the decent show. The 7th place was a coloured cob... (we were in m&m inhand). Oz tends to trot low and doesn't always look very "sparky" so will watch this thread with interest. Rory is the other end of the scale

Hi Pauline! Pru sends Big Sis a snuffle and wishes her lots of luck for Tuesday! You'll be a lot better at a County Show as the atmosphere should lift Poppy. Can you tap her gently under her chin to lift her head and hopefully, when her head comes up, the rest of her body will shorten. Hope all goes well, good luck and let me know how you get on.

Hi Carol, I'll give the tap under the chin a try, am going to practice at home today so hopefully she'll get the message! She does learn quickly it's just a matter of whether she agrees with me or not lol! Hello to Pru from big sis, hope you are both well and Pru's growing well.
Watch out for the results!

Good luck tomorrow Pauline, Poppy will be fine. She is a lovely pony and I was impressed with how laid back about everything she was at Area 5. Cheshire is a bigger deal for a young pony and the atmosphere will probably lift her slightly...I think its nice to know you have a pony who doesn't over-react to things - our Maria was like that about everything when she was a youngster, took everything in her stride, and she grew to love the showring so when we showed her last year, she perked right up and took everyone by surprise becoming a natural show-off, but still in control

Thanks Penny, I've been surprised by her 'take it all in my stride' attitude, so far very little has phased her. Hopefully the 'big occasion' will do the job for us tomorrow. but then as long as she's a good girl and gets a good experience that will do me. it will be good to see her stood against other dales youngsters as well, so looking forward to the day but also slightly anxious!
