Im not very well up on spurs and have never used them until today.
Im trying the roller ball ones with Dan and they seem to be working well. I also found i was keeping my legs stiller so i only used them when needednot jabbing him all the time.
What ones do you use if any and what opinions do you have on them?
I believe the ones im using are quite mild ones.?

I've used Mark Todd rollerballs which are mild. I chose the shorter shanks as this means I have to put my leg on in order to use them. I am really pleased with them and they are very effective on Blue.

I think the important thing with using spurs is that you must have a good, stable and controlled leg position to be able to use the spur correctly. A short shank is not neccessarily a "kinder" spur. Actually it is easier to give gentle, precise aids with a long shanked spur.
Harvey goes a lot better with spurs and it really does help when you are moving up to more complicated work. I know my legs are not strong and stable enough now so I rarely use spurs now in case I mark him or just confuse him plus I'm not doing much competitive dressage now. They do make me more consious of my leg position though and stop me niggling. I've never used the roller ball type but they sound a good idea.

I've stopped using mine for the time being, since my instructor told me that I tend to nag with my leg. I'll go back to them when I've got out of that habit.
For everyday schooling I have a pair with rounded ends and short shanks. For dressage comp I have a longer pair with squared off ends.
What are the benefits of roller ball ones? Just interested....
