Today I sat on it for a bit while I put my riding boots on - but that wasn't very effective. Then I held it in my hand - but that meant I had to take my gloves off so Tilly ended up with a warm bit and I ended up cold hands So what method do you recommend for warming the bit up before tacking up?

I read this thread title and thought OMG!!!!! Surely this should be in personal chat Back to the actual question, to be honest I don't but our tack is in a heated room anyway so they don't get metal cold. Could you leave it in the car until you need it so it stays warmer??

Take a small bowl and a metal flask with some warm water in it?

oh Scout's lucky...no bit ours are in the house before we tack up, so dont have that problem either, mmm you could wrap something around it and leave it in the car till last minute x

Lol, I missed this before the edit! If I'm going anywhere with Harvey in the winter I always have a couple of thermos flasks of hot water with me. Riding from home is no problem as my tack is kept in the house.

I tuck it in my armpit while I'm going to the field.

I'm another armpitter if needed.
There are cute little heating packs nowadays that you can wrap the bit in. I'd imagine they can be found for hunters or outdoorsmen, maybe hikers/walkers as well? They're little heat packs that can be boiled to reuse them. Very handy and they last forever.
