feed your Dales? What amount of work are they in? and how much grains or supplements do they get as well? Is thier weight good?
Mine get fed between 15 and 20 lbs.of hay. Right now they are not getting worked, but when they are they get worked quite heavily so they get between four and five lbs. of a 16% protien 8% fat pellet, some alfalfa pellets, and between two and three lbs. of a complete feed. Out of the five Dales, Happy was the only one that was a little to thin.

Tilly has adlib hay. I've found that if she gets as much as she needs then she self regulates. If I start to ration it then she's more inclined to wolf it all done stupidly fast. I did have a 2-3week transition period where she ate herself stupid until she realised she always had some more and then settled down to how she is now.
She also gets hay in the field if it's snowy - so all in all it's hard to put a value on it.
Hard feed - year round she gets 1kg of Allen & Page Slim and Healthy (either in one or two feeds). This time of year she also gets some unmollassed sugar beet for the extra calories and to give her some form of succulents in her diet when the grass is scarce.
Winter she's in at night and out during the day. Early spring and autumn she's out 24/7, late spring and summer she's out at night and in during the day.
Her weight is about right, but currently she has ZERO muscle tone as riding has been so difficult - so looks a bit flabby and naff.
She is in light work most of the time.

Yup at this time of the year its adlib for the ones in the fields (they have big bales in tombstone ring feeders), the ones in basically get a good chunk of haylage per night and when i check them about 9.30pm i like them to still have some then but it to be gone in the monring. If they are getting fat, they get less. Its not very scientific but it works for us.

Mine get absolutely nothing, except tiny token amounts of haylage when I feed Remy. They are all fat as pigs on my winter field, I'm quite amazed as there isn't a huge amount of grass and we've had such a bad winter - and there are six of them on six and a half acres. During summer I have to be even more watchful of their waistlines!! Unfortunately I do have acres of ex-dairy pasture which is just what they don't need, so keeping them at an acceptable weight is quite a challenge! ETA they are very lightly worked, not at all over winter.

Alf gets adlib hay too, he generally gets through about a bale a day, split between his field in the day and his haynet in the stable at night.
He gets hardly any other feed though, just a small handful of HifiLite and an even smaller handful of high fibre cubes at night, really just because the others get fed, so that he has something in a bucket when they do.
As he isn't backed yet he isn't doing much, just a few minutes of lunging or handling is all.
I will be cutting down his rations a bit soon though as I don't want him going into spring with too much of a tummy!

I have a fell pony and she is out during the day and in at night from Nov till March. During this time she gets adlib hay and 2 mugs of feed balancer at night when she comes in. She is normally ridden about 3 times a week but because of the weather and the flu virus she's not been ridden much at all since November. I think she is looking quite good, she weighs about 450.

Mine live out all year round too but no way could I feed hay ad-lib! Harvey and Winnie are in a fairly grassy field so get les than half a bale of hay between them. Winnie is 37 so he also gets some mushy feed (about 1Kg Alan and Page "calm and condition", 1Kg "fast fibre" and 1Kg of Happy Hoof given as 3 separate meals when he comes in for a few hours and he can pick and choose what he eats and when. I also add some oil to his feeds) Harvey gets a hard feed of Winergy Senior, quantity depending on how much work he's doing. He is the only one in work at the moment although hopefully we will get Dolly back in work now the weather is better. The the 3 in the other paddock get one bale of hay between them and the come in briefly for a feed of Spillers Happy Hoof and vitamins plus a small hay net. If I fed hay ad lib Dolly wouldn't stop eating and would be HUGE! Frankie and Lilly would pace themselves but Dolly - I have never seen a pony munch through hay so quickly and her head doesn't come up til every strand of hay is eaten.

haha, Kazoo is the same way as Dolly. A question is, what is hay ad-lib??? I've never heard of it. and also what is haylage? Ad lib means that the pony always has access to hay, and can eat however much he/she wants (you would provide enough hay so the pony never runs out basically!). Haylage is grass that is baled before it is fully dry, so it has a higher moisture content than hay and therefore has to be wrapped in plastic wrapping to prevent air getting in and subequently spoiling the haylage. It's much higher in nutrition than hay and also has less in the way of dust/spores. However once the bale is opened it has to be used up fairly quickly otherwise it starts to overheat and go mouldy, unlike hay which can be kept for some considerable time without spoiling.

It goes from nothing up to about 60lbs between the two of them depending on the weather and how much grazing they have, just now they are on fairly long old grass so are getting a 10lb net between them once every few days plus speedibeet and chaff to carry their supplements, Daisy gets linseed meal as well to help keep her weight up
