I am unsure what to do about this? He is ok but not entirely using hind right leg all that properly. Only started a couple or so weeks ago. My friend thinks it should go. Thinking he maybe just that he never used those muscles for a while till he got fitter. He is ok walking. Not wanting to call vet yet as want to wait to see.
What do you all think and have anyone had this happen to their ponies?
Should i book the vet in? Bidding on some bioflow boots for the back legs to see if they help. He is 12 now and only had him 6 mths so am little concerned.

I'd be tempted to get the vet out as it's been going on for a few weeks, hopefully it'll be nothing but better to get it checked out

Isaac is often stiff when starting off or, if he's done some work, then the next day. We have put a rug on him to keep his back a bit warmer and use a warm exercise rug when ridden too which seems to help.
Are the muscle tight or sore compared to the good leg or is there any heat in his hoof as there are a lot of abcesses going round?
As Zelda says, call the vet or physio (cheaper!) if you are worried.
How did you get on with Claire by the way? (Sorry if I've missed your post?)

If Harry's stiffness has come on suddenly then the chances are he's tweeked a muscle or something similar out in the field. A good physio should be able to identify the seat of the problem. These days I don't get the vet unless seriously concerned but in your case, as you don't know Harry's past history that well, it would put your mind at rest to get the vet to look him over. If it's a slight injury the vet might presribe a short course of bute to ease pain and inflamation I don't know whether I'm wasting my money but I do try to look after all our older horses joints and feed an omega rich oil plus Harvey also gets cortaflex (he's 17 and in hard work).

hi all, Thanks again for all help. Going to see if he eases off today by walking him up the road and back. If not i may book the vet in. Am relunctant as not that well off. But harry is my priority. So will sell something to do it. Was great with Claire, infact fantastic and Harry is moving like a star. Sh** worried about the stiff leg. Claire noticed it too in trot but not walk. Odd! To add too that he is a nut case in the field and runs around a lot flipping himself upside down pretending he is a dog. Weird!

I's also get a physio before a vet, based on previous experience that's all. I find a good physio can usually be a great help diagnosing these sorts of issues. Is he the same on the flat or is it more noticable down or uphill? Caan you tell if the issue is coming from the knee, hock or higher up? Is it more noticable in ridden work or the same in hand. Any difference on the lunge?
Sorry for all the questions, but a physio or vet may well ask the same thing and it might help you to have all the info ready beforehand.
I hope it sorts itself out quickly and Harry is feeling 100% soon.
