I was just wondering if anyone uses grazing muzzles and if so which one is the best fit etc for a dales..
I've got a feeling he's going to trash it in despair at not being able to eat, so not looking at any expensive ones
Heard the shires ones are good but I've just seen they do up with velcro and surely this wouldnt stand up to much 'abuse'?
I'm dubious about using one at all but feel Jester could use it while I'm in my last few months of uni and haven't got as much time to ride him

Someone i know uses these muzzles. www.grazingmuzzles.co.uk/Have to admit there not cheap, but i think there brilliant quality, and hers have used them all last summer and were fine, as good as new still. They are pretty solid so (fingers crossed) shouldn t break.

I use the Shires ones, brought them off ebay for about £12.00. Never had a problem with the velcro and Molly keeps the muzzle on no problem. The worst problem is the rubbing and I have had to cut holes out and snip bits here and there to suite her, then its been fine. Molly has a very wide face.
There is horse on the yard who gets them all off and they have had to double headcoller her the keep it on, she is in the green guard. I tried the green guard and it didnt work very well.
Occasionally I have used the shires nose net (the full one that goes all the way round) and fixed it to the headcoller, and cut a hole out the bottom, this is great as it doesnt rub but the bottoms do wear out. Not cheap option at about £15.00 and lasts about a month depends on the horse. If I have the extra money I probably would use this all the time as Molly likes this one the best. I not sure this would work on a Houdini.
Im lucky as Molly doesn't like the muzzle but is resigned to wearing it.

I got a shires one in the end.. really happy with it! Had to get full size but it fits perfectly.. hasn't rubbed so far but keeping an eye on that He's only managed to get it off once but I think it wasn't done up tightly enough on that day.. He's a pony I'd 100% never have thought would have got on with a muzzle, thought it would have been trashed on the first day but he soon got used to it.. He has started trying to hide his head in the corner of the stables when you go to put it on though, cheeky thing! Seems happy enough in it in the field though!

I also use the Shires or Best Friends ones and have never had a problem with rubbing. My old Shetland worked out how to remove them and we ended up putting a piece of string from the headpiece, down his nose, to the noseband bit so he couldn't hook the front off on a fence post.
