I thumped the back of head into the ground as the final point of impact after landing on my left leg, then back and I had a mild, behind the eyes headache for a couple of days afterwards.
Jane's right though, any fall where you bump your head even slightly means you should replace your hat. Someone once said to me that meant they'd have to replace their hat twice a month and they couldn't afford it. I just stayed quiet but I did think they should perhaps address what was causing them to fall off that regularly and that disability support for the rest of their lives was expensive for us tax payers!

I realise that any hit to the head means you should replace your hat , I use to cringe when the kids at the livery used throw their and anyone else's hat about the yard. I just wondered how much or little impact it took to cause visible damage to the hat. I really wish I was better with words, I find it difficult to get over what I'm trying to say - and sometimes it comes out all snippy and sharp I don't mean it lol

You didn't sound snippy and sharp to me, Zelda. Anyway - we know you and love you and know that you're just not the snippy sharp type and would be mortified if you thought you'd upset us. So have a hug and stop worrying It is really difficult sometimes to find the right words. I've had to send a difficult email today and spent ages and ages writing one paragraph so that I was conveying what I needed to say without sounding like I was being harsh. In the end I had to get a colleague to check it for me

SORRY!!! I had a premature posting moment. Meant to say - so glad you're OK Heather. Sounds like you landed with a bit of a thump. Glad the BP did its job.

I also wonder how much damage just dropping your hat on the ground can do?

I've also got the Outlyne, it was the only body protector that seemed to fit me well and wasn't horribly constricting or cost stupid money. I have to say I only wear it on occasion with Remy but it gets a thumbs up from me

I'll probably wear my new body protector on the Fun rides (I was surprised that probably 2/3rds of the others had them on), Farms rides and for my jumping lessons. I rode in company yesterday and didn't bother putting it on but it does seem to give me a bit more confidence for hacking alone.

Zelda you never come across as snippy I think you express yourself well, the written word isn't easy. When scientists have looked at communication they say around 80% of our communication comes from non verbal body language and signals so we're really handicapped in cyber space. The Outlyne does seem to be a good solution to having to balance cost, comfort and safety.

Hats are tricky beasts - they can hide damage and appear to be OK after a knock, when in reality they're weakened.

With body protectors its worth going somewhere with a decent range and fitter and trying a few- what suits one wont always suit another. L like my racesafe yet Lu couldnt find one that fitted properly despite trying a range of sizes. Hats definately need replacing after a fall- it really isn't worth the risk.

No way are you snippy Zelda! Maybe MY reply came across as snippy?!
We had a play with old hats at a riding centre I helped at, dropping them from different heights with different force - it was quite frightening how much internal damage was done simply by dropping them from standing on a chair, never mind throwing them.
You just can't replace your head!
