Harry now is out 24/7 but in for a few nights a week. Some times a few hrs in the day too. To be worked.
The field the horses are in at the livery atm is not that grassy any more as they have eaten it down but livery owners are spraying different fields before we have a different 24hr field.
Even tho the horses are not lingering at the gates i personally do not see much grass and have observed them rooting under fencing.
So as to make sure Harry gets enough feed i am tending to give him a handful of happy hoof each day with a cup of lo cal balancer to make sure he is not starving.
Question - am i right doing this?

That's what mine are getting although they only have Spillers Balancer Lite at half rate, not full.
How does he condition score? Does he have a crest?

I've just started Harley on Lami Light and it says he should have a pound to get his full set of vits and mins - seems an awful lot to me so it's interesting to read you can feed less and they still get what they need.

I agree with the others - the only thing I would add is about the grass. Our fields don't look like much grass is coming through - but Tilly's poos, her udder and her waist line disagree!!!
She is now on summer routine of in a completely bare patch during the day and in with her mates during the night. Last couple of years she was in the corral during the day, but this year we're going to try her in a small field (about 20mx30m) that has been heavily grazed all winter by a horse on restricted turnout. If this proves too much she'll go back in the corral. At my yard this is easier to manage than a grazing muzzle.
So I'd keep an eye on Harry's condition score and his poops to determine how much grass is coming through and what supplementary feeding is required.

good advice. So far all poops are green green. So probs getting sufficent. As for condition scoring i'd say he is bit over weight but no real fat deposits anymore like there was when i got him last summer. He has a very very very very shinny coat. So not that bad as other yard ppl say "he looks good" Not sure if i need the balancer now? What you all think?
