Has anyone ever used it and is it any good? And are you supposed to soak it because there's shredded sugarbeet in it i wet my feeds before (to be safe) because no one on my yard was sure lol

Did use it but made no difference to harry's weight. The amount i needed to make sure it was enough was too much for him so i stopped.

In America there has been a raging debate regarding dried beetpulp and soaking/no soaking and choke. The vets here are all adamant that you can feed it dry and one vet does to her poor horses Blossom and Galahad both get shredded beetpulp and I soak theirs for a minimum of 15 to 30 minutes, with closer to 30 being my ideal. I worry too much about choke, but also because Galahad will get impaction colick at the drop of a hat. I make sure his food is completely soaked to help prevent the impactions as much as I can. ...editing to say, you'll want to take up any leftovers as soaked foods can spoil, and it can take ponies a little bit to adjust to their food being soaked. Galahad was off his soaked food for maybe a day or so. Blossom on the other hand pitched a hissi fit that I'd soaked her food It took her nearly a week of throwing her bucket about in a rage before she finally realized that was it and she'd better get used to it.

Ah thankyou, i only got it because it's cheaper than the Bailey's, if it makes no difference to his weight i'll find something else, it's gave him a bit more energy if nothing else. Interesting, i think i will keep soaking it though just incase my mum is convinced it's been soaked and dried but idk, o.O OMG poor horses can't it expand in their belly too? :/ i've been soaking it as i'm using it because it's so warm lately so it might not go off. Yeah i really worry about choke too the horse opposite mine had it once it was horrible, lol Blossom and Benji have the tantrums in common he won't eat his feed dry though and will just throw the bucket back out again which is quite funny when some poor un-suspecting person is in his line of fire XD lol.

According to the vets it didn't swell enough to impact the stomach. According to me, dry volume versus the swelled volume afterwards, I'd worry too. The vets were saying eating it dry was no different to a horse eating grains or pelleted foods dry; however, I look at the sharp points on the dried shredded beet pulp and worry about the pony's throat. Blossom has teeth, but gets in such a rush, I often shout at her to chew her food She tends to inhale. Galahad on the other hand, has no teeth, so we definitely soak all of his stuff. Its the dry versus wet that bothers me. If a pony has a very good desire to drink a lot of water, I don't think it would matter, but the dried food has to absorb water from the pony in order to be digested. I can sooo picture the sailing food bucket in disgust! Blossom tips her bucket all about to show her displeasure, but I've noticed as much as she tips it to drain off some of the water, she very rarely if ever lets the food spill out. Clever girl

Isn't it more of a concern that the food swells in the gullet and that's how they choke? My old lad Apollo has to have everything soaked or he chokes even on a handful of pellets. He's a roarer and has polyps and I think the feed gets lodged in his throat.
I would soak anything with sugar beet in it, whether it is pelleted or shreds.

it should definitely say on the bag if its to be soaked!
I would personally soak it anyway if it has beet in - it will expand and make the pony think he's getting more than he actually is ;D

Stupid laptop has died again so i'm now using my phone wich won't connect to wi-fi so is being unbelieveably slow -_- According to the vets it didn't swell enough to impact the stomach. The vets were saying eating it dry was no different to a horse eating grains or pelleted foods dry; however, I look at the sharp points on the dried shredded beet pulp and worry about the pony's throat. Yeah i worry over how much it expands in their bellies, it would just be my luck though for something to happen to Benji, this vet confuses me, so in that case it's just like us eating pot noodles or cup a soup dry and not being sick afterwards lol I can sooo picture the sailing food bucket in disgust! Blossom tips her bucket all about to show her displeasure, but I've noticed as much as she tips it to drain off some of the water, she very rarely if ever lets the food spill out. Clever girl Bahaha is hit some girl square in the face once :S. Awww cleaver powney, Benji tips his everywhere too as if to say 'make it again' the little horror haha . Harry kicks his feed bucket out the way when he has finished with it. My friends horse hits you with the feed bucket. ouch! Haha if only my boy would kuck his away if he's not launched them there squished in his bed lol, my welshie i had used to swing his round he caught me in the lip once and it killed lmao. Theres an old horse on my yard that chokes on tiny amounts of pellets too it's feed has to be mush they cut the hay too i think. Yeah i'm definately going too keep soaking it i think. it should definitely say on the bag if its to be soaked! I would personally soak it anyway if it has beet in - it will expand and make the pony think he's getting more than he actually is ;D It doesn't say on the bag or the website, on the speedi beet it does :/ i'm going to carry on soaking it me thinks, better to be safe and whatnot Thanks everyone ;D x.
