I'm organising a Level 1 BHS Trec competition to be held on Sunday 15th April 2012 in Escrick Park. This is very early notification, I know, but I thought I'd post it on here so that anyone who is interested can put the date in their diaries.
More info will be available when the schedule is ready to go out, but I can say that there will be two classes: one for absolute novice Treccers and an open class for everyone else. I hope this will encourage people to come along and have a go. The judges and stewards will give extra help and hints to novice riders.
All competitors may ride as either individuals or in pairs.
I haven't negotiated corralling yet, but will be speaking to the Estate Office to see if they can give us a field. There will be some stabling, with space for people to camp or sleep in their lorries/trailers near to their horses. An evening meal will be arranged - either a BBQ or pub meal (short walk). There will be a secure tack room, a proper loo and tea/coffee/hot water facilities.
The PTV (obstacles) will be in an enclosed area. The CoP (control of paces) will be straight and flat. The POR (orienteering) will be up to 12k (7 miles) long through woodland and farmland with a very short stretch of road work on a quiet, single-track country lane. It's possible that there might be a road crossing (B-road), but if so, it will be marshalled.
There will be catering and loos on the main competition site. I'm hoping to organise an event photographer - still working on that.
That's the details for now. Do ask any questions and I'll try to answer them.
If anyone is thinking of having a go and hasn't done Trec before, I would strongly recommending getting a copy of the Trec rulebook from the BHS shop. It makes interesting reading!
